Who Called in the Contract?
You know how you get attacked by a Dark Brotherhood assassin, and you find the note on them saying you were a target and "failure is not an option." Well who called the hit, and why do none of the members of the Dark Brotherhood mention this when you join?

Re: Who Called in the Contract?
I was wondering the same thing. I think it can depend, based on which people you've [****]ed off during the game. For example, I think the person who ordered the hit on me was Mavin Black-Briar. I have no proof, but since I stole a horse from her recently, I can picture her doing that.

Re: Who Called in the Contract?
The most broad-across-the-board answer: do you remember what happened at the beginning of the game, where you had to choose between following the legion soldier or the rebel?
Well, the guy you rejected may have been the one who called the Dark Brotherhood down upon you. Fella just can't let go of a grudge...

Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

I'm mostly confused by the inane lack of stealth these assassins show. I mean, one of them came running straight at me whule crossing a bridge!

Re: Who Called in the Contract?
I finally got around to murdering somebody after a second assassin tried to kill me. I got the message "Your actions have been seen" as well as "Bounty decreased in East..." don't remember the name of the town, but thought it was strange that I had a bounty at all, and that it would decrease after murdering someone.

Re: Who Called in the Contract?
I've heard that the attacks on you from the Dark Brotherhood simply occur once you've achieved enough renown, and I think if you have a good reputation. Though I wouldn't be surprised if specific people will order them as well, considering that's how the hired thugs work. Also, while it's possible the person you didn't choose in the intro made the contract, a few people have pointed out that once you're out of Helgen, both Hadvar and Ralof mention they wouldn't have made it out without your help, and have taken this as evidence that the man you didn't choose to side with was killed in the escape. The fact you never see the one you didn't go with seems to at least lend some credibility to the idea.

Re: Who Called in the Contract?
Perhaps the one you didn't side with got killed by the dragon, seeing as you pass through the same places and don't meet each other.

It's rather amusing, I've had multiple assassins approach me (full frontal) at an extremely slow pace (but not sneaking, they just walked up to me)JVElEven wrote:I'm mostly confused by the inane lack of stealth these assassins show. Or the time one tried to attack me while I was fighting a dragon and she ended up just as dragon food before she even pulled out her blade.

Puggles the Orc is used to people trying to kill him, but it's getting a bit much; Lortheim (the priest of Talos at Windhelm) hired some goons to rough me up and I had only talked to him once!

With that name, I'd expect a Priest of Talos to be a tad disrespectful.Puggles wrote:Puggles the Orc is used to people trying to kill him, but it's getting a bit much; Lortheim (the priest of Talos at Windhelm) hired some goons to rough me up and I had only talked to him once!

Asbjorn Fire-Tamer hired some thugs to 'teach me a lesson'. I just checked the wiki and it says that he does it when you steal from The Scorched Hammer in Riften, Although it's not confirmed. If someone would edit it in for me that would be cool, I can't seem to open the wiki at the moment.

Re: Who Called in the Contract?
I was enjoying a moonlit evening in werewolf form when one of them screamed and ran directly at me from the other side of a bridge. I did the sprinting power attack and one hit killed her.
It was rather anticlimactic...

Yesterday upon the stair, I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today. Oh how I wish he'd go away!
