Where does Whiterun get its water?
It all flows out of dragonsreach, which is on top of a giant rock.
So perplexing.
So perplexing.

Geothermal geyser from inside the mount.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

The ps3 one is probably more likely.

Somewhat off topic, but still having to do with water: anybody notice water flows uphill in Bleak Falls Barrow?

So while we were off tracking him down to try and defeat him, the real threat was RIGHT IN FRONT OF US from the beginning!

I was thinking the very same thing yesterday. While there are many things in game that you can easily question, that water really sticks out as a phenomenon only fame and money hungry Beth. can explain.
Honestly, the landscape around Whiterun is the worst I'v yet to see in TES. Once you get away from the outskirts of Whiterun it quickly gets better. Center of Skyrim, looks terrible. Ok it's a tundra, but even a tundra looks better than that. The view from top of White River Watch explain it all. There is a screenie in the screenie topic to, we all see the same. Even map of the area looks better and "greener". It looks like one gigantic template, you try to go closer, praying some grass and trees appear, but no. They don't. Best you get is some smeared paintwork so there are some colours on the ground.
Beth. is strange. Both Oblivion and Skyrim I deeply hated the first 30 minutes of game. It took me 4 years to get out of starter sewer in Oblivion, UI was primary reason though. It was cool to almost be executed, but the parts up to that, and after that up until you are free. Were just terrible. Let me walk through a cencus & exice office, give my details and send me off. Or, be a little more creative. Skyrim could have started inside Cidhna Mine. My most hated quest in Skyrim that is.
I personally don't mind snow, but I know other gamer's really hate snow in games. It's way beyond me what Beth. intentions with the game is. The best area in Skyrim except tiny surroundings of Darkreach, is Eastmarch. Looking like how Whiterun should have, but no. This belong to a huge city covered in snow that happens to house a potential High King, but ruined Winterhold stretches all the way to the borders of Windhelm.
I think an Orc designed the game. No trees where there should be a forest, but plenty of trees far above the upper tree line high in mountains.
I don't know where to begin, or where to finish my hatred for todays TES standard.
Console's are getting it, having internal battles to avoid cussing the users. I'm glad though, PC users seem to agree. In future, may we have two separate worlds, please?
Did you know. That your neighbor in Whiterun, are a gay couple?

Re: Where does Whiterun get its water?
I just assumed it was from a spring. I mean, there's a river running right from it, so a spring makes sense, no?

Re: Where does Whiterun get its water?
I think a few needs to learn where fresh water comes from. What a natural well is, among. You won't find a natural well on top of a mountain, if you do. It's called a lake.
I to had to assume it was from a spring, yet to encounter anything indicating the water being pumped up from 200 feet below or from the river down south, though. We know the dwemer had piping and hydraulics. It may be underground in Whiterun. Highly doubt. Looking at how much water flows out at such high height of Dragonreach. So high, there would not even be room below the castle floor for piping. The water flows out as high as above the prison.
Natural spring? Not at that height, with that volume of water.

Re: Where does Whiterun get its water?
It could be an artesian well.
Basically the whole valley has the right rock composition to keep water under pressure, then the builders of Whiterun drilled through that rock and made the water pump itself up.
Sure, a bit far-fetched, but geologically possible.

And not that far fetched given the "tech"/magic level of the setting.jokedst wrote:It could be an artesian well.

Posibly an artesian spring fed from the glacer melt off of the surrounding mountains.

Re: Where does Whiterun get its water?
I have mixed feelings about the exteriors. There is some flawed plainness, but it's also kind of countered by the Ridley Scott-esque snow and particles blurring your vision everywhere you look. hm

By flapping their wings!
Now what's the physics behind dragon breath?
One show on Discovery postulates that hypothetical real-world dragons could do so by, instead of farting, they store that gas in a special pouch, which is shot out of their mouth and ignited by... eating platinum or something. I don't remember the details.
