Re: Why do they all attack me for killing a chicken?
I heard someone do this and get into trouble so I made sure to keep my fireballs to myself near chickens.
However if someone tried slaughtering my chicken I would probably come at them.

Would killing a cow explain the reasoning behind this feature better? Like someone already said already, it's their property. And Nord love their meat

Re: Why do they all attack me for killing a chicken?
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but has anyone found a solution to have the villagers stop attacking you after killing a chicken?
I just bought skyrim last night and finished the quest to retrieve the golden claw and I also cleared the mine right next to it before returning back to town. In all, it took about 3 hours, I got to level 6 and I didn't make a quick saves (only going with the autosaves). When I got back to Riverwood, I decided to kill a chicken walking around the entrance to the town just for fun and now almost EVERYone in town is trying to kill me. I ran out of town and tried waiting for 12 hours, but when I came back, everyone is still trying to kill me.
All of my recent autosaves are after killing the chicken. The only quicksave I have is when I first get to riverwood after the opening sequence. Besides reverting back to this save (which I REALLY don't want to do since I would have wasted 3 hours), is there ANY way to get the villagers to stop attacking me? I can't do any other quests in Riverwood now because of this.

Yield to a guard by sheathing your weapon and either pay the fine or go to jail... that's all I can think of ATM...Maximaniac wrote:Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but has anyone found a solution to have the villagers stop attacking you after killing a chicken?

I haven't been able to find a guard in Riverwood. I've tried walking into town with my weapon sheathed, but the villagers keep attacking me on sight. Should I travel to another town that has guards and yield to them??

I haven't played Morrowind yet. I'm wondering, why is Fargoth so hated?

Maybe they view them as pets. By the way has anyone seen any wild chickens?

Riverwood is part of Whiterun Hold (if/when Riverwood gets any guards, they'll be Whiterun Guards), so you may have to run up to Whiterun in order to pay up.Maximaniac wrote:I haven't been able to find a guard in Riverwood. Back on the whole chicken-murder issue: in the old days, having a broiled chicken for dinner was a relatively rare event. Hens were much more valuable for their eggs rather than their meat, so folks didn't go about taking the time and grain to grow a chicken simply to kill it once it was big enough.
Only when a hen was no longer a productive egg-layer was the bird destined for the pot. The 20th Century advances in poultry production are what brought about the notion of chicken being an everyday sort of food.
So, blasting a hen with FUS-RO-DAH doesn't represent the loss of one serving of McNuggets— it represents a hundred breakfasts without scrambled eggs. No wonder those Nord woodcutters were ticked off...

Also, don't run off with the chickens after killing them...guards get very confused.
Go up to a Jarl and say "T'is the chicken chaser, mil'lord, I hail from thy town of Riverwood". "Kill him"

That was one of the funniest posts I've read in a while. So, blasting a hen with FUS-RO-DAH doesn't represent the loss of one serving of McNuggets— it represents a hundred breakfasts without scrambled eggs. No wonder those Nord woodcutters were ticked off...
That said, after reading this entire topic, I purposely went out to Riverwood (saved before hand,) and killed a chicken. It's just funny, in a fatal sort of way.
Oh for the love of little green tomatoes...

He has this strange habit of hiding valuables in a not-so-secret place then wondering how his items get "misplaced". Also, he gets far too friendly with the player when he or she does him a favour. That's the main thing. He's an all-round weird guy, really.Alchemist wrote:I haven't played Morrowind yet. I'm wondering, why is Fargoth so hated?
That and the Th-whatshisname (Thurundil, perhaps?) character in the Anvil docks in IV give the Bosmer a bad image. Well, not a bad image as such, but it makes them look utterly bizarre.

For Oblivion and the "strange" Bosmer you forgot the adoring Fan and Mister Paranoia Glarthir. And for Morrowind the "strangest" woodelf appears in Mournhold (Gaenor), I hate him so much!^^.
Edit:
I forgot the chicken
.
How would you feel if someone comes to your city and kill your chicken?

Just found an amazing way to enhance this mayhem. Summon atronach. Kill chicken. Odahviing. Also enhanced with a dog, follower, and Shadowmere. Watch your party slaughter the entire town over one chicken.

I'm liking this approach. I think Bethy should have made this a quest given out by the Dark Brotherhood.... it's perfect. Now what name could we give the Quest?Reizoko13 wrote:Just found an amazing way to enhance this mayhem. Summon atronach. Kill chicken. Odahviing. Also enhanced with a dog, follower, and Shadowmere. Hmm, I can see it as a Daedric quest. Maybe Sanguine. Daedric artifact reward should totally be a rubber chicken. Not thinking of a good name; maybe some pun on 'plucking.'
Also. Slaughtering the entire town means you don't have to pay your bounty.
