I don't know about funniest movie ever ever everer made, as I lean towards pretentious, dour cinema...

...but I do have a fondness for Ben Foster/Kirsten Dunst's Get Over It. It's supposed to be a 'teen comedy'. But it's very, very funny. And sweet. And a little clever. It certainly won't be termed a classic, by any dull film critics, but I'd much rather watch that than Python (they're just too long to sustain the energy). Tho kudos does go to Spinal Tap.

(I watch tv for funny; anything Joss Whedon, Futurama, American Dad, Fast Show, Adam & Joe)

Well, if you want pretentious, dour, AND funny, try Happiness, Little Miss Sunshine, Cecil B Demented, I Heart Huckabees, or Kurosawa's Lower Depths.

Lower Depths is one of my faves (that I still don't own). Yojimbo/Sanjuro go without saying as far as AK's most humorous works. In fact a lot of his stuff has a good deal of mirth running through certain characters, albeit often of a wry sensibility. Even Akahige ends on a (relatively) high note. Don't know about Ran tho..

The others you mention, I've heard of but have never caught my eye enough to watch them. Maybe I'll try 'em out when I get the chance.

Are you kidding? Ran was a laugh a minute! Aside from the porcupine scene in Throne of Blood, I don't think I've ever laughed so hard during a Kurosawa film as I did while watching Ran. I mean, the part where Saburo dies JUST after his father comes around was side-splitting! Perfect comic timing right there.

Happiness is a bit un-PC, but features one of the best father-son bonding moments ever put on film (you'll know it when you see it). As long as you don't mind pedophile jokes and models with rape fantasies, give it a watch. Little Miss Sunshine has the same indie black comedy feel as Happiness, but it's somewhat shinier, and has a gay Proust scholar recovering from a suicide attempt. Can't get any more pretentious than that. Cecil B Demented is a deluge of filmfag name dropping and meta-text, good if you're into the sort of directors that weedy people with college degrees claim to love, or just really, really anti-social (although it makes some rather unkind jabs at Tarantino. C'mon guys! Tarantino is plenty hip). It's directed by John Waters, which should tell you a lot, but it's also appropriate for general viewing, unlike oooooooh Pink Flamingos, which if you've never seen it's probably best left that way. I'm not getting banned from UESP for endorsing that cinematic gem! And I Heart Huckabees bills itself as "An Existentialist Comedy", which should be enough to tell you that you're in for one HELL of a pretentious ride!

Well, it wasn't as classy as Dumb & Dumber (which, btw, is the Official Number One Comedy Film of All Time), but it made a good showing.

It depends on the topic. It also depends on the reason for rebirth.

Topics like this, generic, padding, "Flavor of the Day" topics, should be recyled. It is better than starting a new one. Nothing wrong with it, as long as it leads to more discussion.

If you start a new one, people complain that we alrady had 5 other topics like this. It is a loose - loose situation.

Necroposting is only bad, when it is a help topic, and someone posts a useless (late) reply. Most help topics are dead within 24hours. Two to Three days max. There is the rare occasion that a help topic results in a discussion, and lasts a week.

The other problem, is if someone Necroposts & Post Floods.

My favourite funny movie: a tie between Water, starring Michael Caine and Billy Connolly, and the Great Dictator, starring the immortal Charlie Chaplin along with Paulette Goddard.

Umm, what’s it called when you post something outrageous and provocative, just to get a reaction. I can’t remember. I’m sure there’s a word for it.... Hmmm....
