Book Collection Mod (Preparatory Theorycrafting)

Post by jakj »

So, without actual Creation Kit knowledge, time for some guesses.

On Oblivion, I use an OBSE mod that tracks the books I read, putting " (Read)" after their names in-game. I want to create an equivalent mod for Skyrim, but upgraded. Assumptions:

1) There's a way to track books read. (Presumably a Skyrim Script Extender will come out quickly enough, if there isn't a way to do it in-game already.)

2) There's a way to create a custom version of Clairvoyance that will draw a line to the nearest unread book (possibly limited to the current cell, also possibly limited to working only indoors or within a certain radius). (This also assumes there's a way for a constantly-running script to access the contents of the area to figure out if unread books are present.)

3) There's a way to use the custom version of Clarivoyance (I'm thinking of calling it "Thirst for Knowledge" or something) to apply some sort of glow effect to books (as if they were enchanted). (This would need to apply both in the inventory 3D-preview pane and in the actual world.)

Based on y'all's knowledge of Morrowind/Oblivion modding, do you think any of this is likely to be possible, and if so, how do you think it might be done, in theory?
