How careless of me. I searched for the overall answer, but not for one of the two mini-answers. I'm afraid that the other half is not Hircine however. She is simply the former foe. You're so nearly there.

2 different ways
One fights, one betrays. 2 ways to be a werewolf. One is through the fighter's guild equivalent (The companions), and the other requires you to betray Sinding whom you agreed to help.

One stolen and cursed
From former foe’s purse Sinding gives you a Hircine's cursed ring, the daedric prince you fought in Bloodmoon.

The other you attain
After meeting their bane. You learn of the companions' secret right after you first meet the Silver Hand, the werewolves' bane.

Plus legends in lore There are seven named werewolves in the game, plus you. There are many more in TES Lore.

Hmmm... Perhaps it is the Twilight Sepulchre and The Pilgrim's path? Broken Temple and Vengeful Mistress hint towards that, although things like "holy champion" and "shining light" hint otherwise.
