Creatures you just can't sneak past

Post by Valderan »

So I've noticed with 100 sneak, 35%+ camouflage(usually 45% if I'm really trying) I just can't sneak past nether liches, they always seem to see me from a very long way away, mind you if their back is turned I can sneak past them. But it seems like they have detect life 100 ft or something along those lines. Anyone know if thats the case with certain monsters?

No one other than yourself ever uses Detect Life (not that I know of anyways). However, your chance on successfully sneaking also depends on the level of sneak of the people around you. Ever found it was harder to steal a coin from that woman who teaches master sneak than a random passerby? That's because the master sneak's sneak level it 100, while the random passerby's is 15-30ish.

If you want to exploit a glitch, sure. That takes all the fun out of having master sneak. Heck, you don't even need to sneak if you have 100% chameleon or invisibility.

I'm aware that creatures with higher sneak are harder to sneak by, but it's typically more of a sight issue then a sneak, I can walk directly behind the liches with 100 sneak, but if i'm at the other side of a huge room where I can just barely see their glow, and im sitting in the dark, they always seem to just "see" me and i have to break cover to kill them, and its starting to get a bit frustrating going into undead dungeons because of it.

Detect Life is pretty useful, I think. I just don't use it because I don't have the powah to give it a long enough range.
Help? Help with what? They don't make a cure for stupid. You'll just have to play through the game all over again. - Butterknife

I'm using the Minor Detect Life spell constantly with my new character - only to up my Mysticism skill so I can start soul-trapping though. See, it does have its uses!

I use it at minimum range as 1 part of my buffing spells to let me know when the buff will wear off. EG I'll have a spell with shield, fortify health, and shock shield for 2 minutes on touch, and detect life at min range for 2 minutes on self. Then I won't have to guess if the person I'm trying to keep alive still has the active buff on them, I just look for the little egg shape.

How heavy are your boots? Npc and animals detect you much quicker when you have heavy boots on. Try to avoid heavy boots when you're a thief. :)

ps. Do you have a light enchantment on yourself? That can be the problem too.
Guard: Taste my sword!!!
Bandit: Hmm. Tastes like chocolat, is that right?
Guard: Unbelievable! How did you do that?:|

Once you hit Journeyman level, that no longer applies. Though I guess Valderan could be buffed up to 100?

I think Vesna meant in-game? As in the Nether Lichs won't be using it. Have you tried Sigil Stones for Detect Life? They have a v. good range, esp at Transcendent level.

If you have 100% chameleon, then they aren't "seeing" you but hearing your footsteps. Like being a level 1 high elf and trying to sneak behind somebody when they're the only one in the room and facing the opposite direction, you might still get "seen" because they hear your footsteps. Same concept...
