Anyone seen noticeable effects of "treasure hunter" perk?
Just want to know if it's worth it, before I spend 6 perks getting it.
Re: Anyone seen noticeable effects of "treasure hunter" perk
Talk about Lockpicking have this line
Personally I don't feel the need for any perks into lockpicking. Have more gold than I can spend and I open expert and master locks just fine anyway. Practice. PRACTICE!-- I found Dragonplate armor in a chest in a random cave after I unlocked treasure hunter. Also it increased the amount of valuable enchanted weapons and armor drastically

Re: Anyone seen noticeable effects of "treasure hunter" perk
You miss my drift. I dont want gold, or need help opening locks. The treasure hunter perk gives "a 50% better chance of finding special treasure."
I'd just be buying all of the other perks to get there.

By the time you get there, it won't matter enough. You can enchant things that cost more than most of what you'll find in a dungeon

Yes, I have 100 enchanting and smithing. I like to find things more than make them

I don't have it, but my guess would be:
Have 100 smithing and/or enchanting? Don't bother.
Don't? Get it.

On-topic though; I haven't seen the Treasure Hunter perk I don't think. What skill is it under ?

Lockpicking. I think it branches off from either the Adept or Expert lockbreaking perk.mcjordalini wrote:I haven't seen the Treasure Hunter perk I don't think. What skill is it under ?

Re: Anyone seen noticeable effects of "treasure hunter" perk
The thing is that some enchantments are very rare (muffle, resist poison, water breathing).TheNightFather wrote:By the time you get there, it won't matter enough. You can enchant things that cost more than most of what you'll find in a dungeon
Water breading is very rarely sold by vendors but muffle and poison resist appear not to. If the treasure hunter perk really does give a big boost it may be worth it especially for enchanters.
Having dual enchanted boots with fortify sneak and muffle is nice, very nice.

I'm getting it because I hate clearing a mine and finding a silver necklace. Don't care about the money, just enjoy finding dope loot.

Special treasure = much higher chance to find high level enchanted weapons and armor.
If you dont want gold.
If you don't need help to open locks.
If you already abuse enchanting AND smithing.
Then;
YOU-DON'T-NEED-TO-BOTHER-WITH-LOCKED-CHESTS-OR-PERKS-IN-LOCKPICKING-AT-ALL(tm)
For OTHER people that do want more gold or access to high end rare enchants it will be a good idea to take it. But not you. You already have all that.

Re: Anyone seen noticeable effects of "treasure hunter" perk
Sorry if i came out a bit hard, but you don't really make it clear what you want in the first placeMorroWeiner wrote:First, how am I to make these abusive enchantments if I don't find anything good to disenchant in the first place?
If all you want is to find more enchanted weapons and armor (even if you probably already can make them yourself or buy items with the enchants from a vendor).
Yes, then the perk is good for you.
If you rather spend gold to buy item from a vendor (with all the gold that you state you don't need more of) and disenchant it that way, have the time to wait until it actually drop as loot or in a chest or rather create and enchant the item yourself (with your 100 smithing and enchanting that you already have).
No, then the perk is not good for you.
(Personally I don't think any perks in lockpicking are worth it even for my "rogue" character, but that is just me and my personal opinion)

Re: Anyone seen noticeable effects of "treasure hunter" perk
Morrow You should get that perk
At this point it isnt about whether its good or not,
You ~want~ the perk, Youre essentially fighting for it. You just want someone to justify getting it.
So yes, It will improve what you get from chests, You should definitely get it! (and keep a save file that exist before you got it)

I'm using this perk and I found a Daedric bow somewhere between lvl 20-30 orso, long before I people started wearing glass equipment.
On the other hand, I've just passed the 200,000 septim mark, and I've already bought a couple houses. But I'm very protective about my money;

- I haven't used the enchantment of a weapon yet, because that will drain the charge, and thus lower the value.
- I rarely drink potions.
- I only enchant stuff to increase their sale value.
- I open every freaking jar and urn and loot every body I kill to get that last little bit of gold.

I just got this perk a few days ago. First chest I looted, in a peasant's home in Riverwood, was a glass battleaxe. Yeah, I think it helps.

Re: Anyone seen noticeable effects of "treasure hunter" perk
Interesting thread this, and interesting posts.
While i'm yet to achieve the Lockpicking skill level (70) to use this perk, i think it's exactly the kind of perk that would enhance my own personal role playing experience.
Why? Because, i find the whole Smithing Tree/Skill imbalanced to my own enjoyment of the game.
For me, the idea of looting and finding rare/different items really exciting and rewarding.
To put this in context, i've recently chosen a couple of perks on the Smithing Tree that allowed me to make some Elven boots, which was the only piece of Elven Armour i had yet to find.
In hindsight, i feel that i've cheated myself
It's just not for me, it wasn't exciting or rewarding in any way whatsoever.
So, i'm going to sell those boots, and not put anymore perks in Smithing.
This is probably a minority stance, but i don't care. I'm off adventuring with a big smile on my face!
And that's what roleplaying/Skyrim is really all about! It's a personal experience.
