I have a feeling a dlc will have something to do with the vigilents of stendarr.

At the beginning of this thread I said I wasn't prepared to speculate on what will be included in future DLCs. However, I mentioned the following idea in another thread, and it raised enough interest for me to flesh it out here. I'm not predicting this will be included, it's just an "I wish for this" kind of thing. Brevity is not my strong suit, (it's not even a minor skill of mine,) and this is going to get wordy. I apologise in advance.

In a nutshell, this DLC idea is centered on the concept of a new safe-house. Anyone familiar with Oblivion's Frostcrag Spire will know what I'm talking about. However, for Skyrim, I'm thinking of something with far more utility and interactivity. Instead of being given a ready-made dwelling that needs only a few purchaseable upgrades to be complete, I'd like to see one of Skyrim's Jarls grant you a "homestead", which would begin as nothing more than an expanse of player-owned land. (Every Jarl would have a "homestead" dialogue option available, but, you could only ever accept one homestad grant in the game. With all Jarls having this option, you could select which region of Skyrim you'd prefer to settle in. Once a homestead has been granted, the homestead dialogue option for all remaining Jarls would disappear.)

With the homestead's deed of title, you are now free to begin building. You'd be forced to begin small and cozy, like a simple cabin, which can be further expanded with additional rooms, wings, and levels. People could indulge their role-playing and go all out by progressively building opulent country manor houses, or content themselves with simpler rustic homes, depending on their character. I think having an option to select an archtectural style would be fun too, or could be further used to tailor this new home to a particular character's ethnicity. I've always liked Oblivion's Akaviri Cloud Ruler Temple, for example.

I'd like to see two possibilities for doing actual construction. Firstly, players could gather their own wood and stone building materials and build the structures themselves. Secondly, if someone is swimming in Gold and is looking for something to spend it on, or who doesn't want to role-play with manual labour, local craftspeople could be hired to do the building.

These are some of the additions/features I'd want to have available for the DLC homestead:

- Smelter and Forge

- Sawmill: The sawmill really should include it's own Workbench, similar to the forge's workbench. The sawmill workbench would be used to construct furniture to fill your DLC home, including useful interactive items such as safe-storage chests, display cases, bookshelves, weapon racks, etc.

-Tanning Rack

-Alchemy Table

- Kitchen: For cooking recipes and storing food supplies.

- Garden Plots/Farmland: For growing your own crops.

- Animal Pens/Stables/Barns: For anyone wanting to mess around with cows and goats. Plus, they would serve as shelter for your horses.

Let me make it clear that everything in the DLC would be 100% optional. Nobody would be forced into accepting something they don't want their character to have. You decide what gets built, you decide what gets used. On the topic of skill increases/perk points from using the DLC homestead forge, I propose that this forge be specially-coded, allowing a gamer to use it in the natural Skyrim manner, as well as having the optional choice to "neutralize", or turn off it's skill-building mechanism. This would allow for people to role-play without worrying about unwanted skill increases.

If you're still with me after all that, thank-you. Let me add one more detail: The Barn/Stables could include a special horse, permanently hitched to a cart or wagon. This cart would act like a safe storage container, except that it's transportable, making it ideal for delivering your homestead wares to the various merchants of Skyrim. While in transport, you could still be attacked and robbed by Bandits, it'd be up to you to defend your horse and wares. (For game-code and graphics simplicity, the cart could be rendered to resemble a stake-sided wagon, covered with an animal hide tarp. It would behave like a storage chest, you wouldn't actually "see" what it contains by looking at it from the outside.)

I know this idea sounds a bit like some weird lovechild between Harvest Moon and The Sims, but, if implemented properly, it could add a ton of role-playing potential and post-quest replayability to Skyrim for many gamers. Thanks for reading.

Thinking of Oblivion? Don't. Think about what it would be like if they did something more like Morrowind's DLC.

I really enjoyed how oblivion surprise me with the Si... That was fun.

But it feels different for skyrim. I say, continue with dragons, continue with the war. An if they want, maybe give a special power to dovahkiin to bring a bunch of drags to war .

I love how expansions provide so many unique things and character powers.

Not that we know of, so actually, that could work really well.

Definitely thirded. Skyrim has nowhere near enough Factions. Morrowind was more on the mark

I think it will be at least early next year when they announce DLC or expansions, possiby longer. Allthough i can't see them waiting ages, as Todd Howard has confirmed that they are already working on DLC or an expansion right now.

Probably an Xmas announcement. They released Skyrim on a pretty special date, might as well keep up the trend.

I'm as excited for the DLC as I was the actual game now...

On the mindset of nothing major for a dlc, but i played oblivion on the ps3 so i never got the mages spire, or the fort thingy. I would love a fort or house add on.

Battlehorn Fort was cool and worked well with my character.

As for this game- just a thought, but since there are unkillable Imperial Commanders/Stormcloak Captains, maybe that is because they are going to be vital for DLC continuing the war?

Ideas:

Sovngarde- I mean, come on, this just screams character leveling machine. Always a fight going on, and you could even have an arena-esque part where you fight the great heroes of the Nords...and maybe even previous PCs, who knows?:P Add in a story about the dead Companions leading a force into the Hunt to save their fellows and this turning into a war between Sovngarde and the Daedra, and you have a cool DLC.

The Civil War Continued- TBH, while I liked the civil war, there wasn't much to it beyond TAKE THIS FORT AND THAT FORT LOL. There were no big battles except for Whiterun basically, felt like a minor deal. However, reinforcements from the Empire/Stormcloak Insurgents arrive en masse, and you not only have a questline that can end with you becoming High-King, but radiant quests involving large scale battles in open areas as well as ambushes and other fights.

I'd like to change my vote to this. This idea here has so much potential, and it doesn't require a real-world area to be used up.

From what I've seen, the most plausible ideas here are (location names bolded to attract the eyes):

- New Orsinium (Orc Strongholds hint towards this, and the fanbase hasn't seen any of High Rock since Daggerfall)
- Solstheim (Lore hints that the place has changed radically since Bloodmoon came out, so Bethesda can change it up as much as they want)
- Some part of northern Morrowind, and/or perhaps a return trip to whatever is left of Vvardenfell (Same reason as Solstheim, but with far more nostalgia buy-potential than even a Daggerfall tribute)
- Moonshadow (Bethesda could easily get away with doing the Shivering Isles all over again, because we don't know what most of the Planes of Oblivion look like)

Everything else is waay out of the ball-park. But that's just me. I personally really like these ideas, mainly because alot of the areas people mentioned (ie; High Rock, Hammerfell, Morrowind) are very nicely covered by the heightmap. Everything else is a bit out of the ballpark.

But we'll see, in time.

That assumes that you are forced to take the position. You wouldn't need to be- I mean, your character is already going to be reduced to legend in the series' canon despite becoming Thane of all the Holds, a legendary Dragonborn, and putting an end to/leading to victory the revolution. Becoming High King/Queen as an option wouldn't impact Canon any worse since it will be forgotten anyway.

@The Noob-

New Orsinium- Of all the ideas you put forth, this to me seems like the only real possibility. Doubt they will do anything with Morrowind or an area we have already visited, and I don't think they would want to sorta repeat the Shivering Isles by just launching us into another plane for a full expansion. New Orsinium would be nice. I still think Sovngarde, since it has already been put into the game, has mass potential that hasn't been touched, and allows for an other-worldly experience, would be best for one DLC.

Then again, I would see the Sovngarde DLC as a sort of Knights of the Nine sort of thing, not a full-blown expansion.

I would like to see:
One DLC that impacts the Civil War in a major way.
One DLC that takes us to a relatively unused location that has great potential and has plot reverence in the main game.
Both of these are beefier versions of Knights of the Nine, adding quests, characters, locations, items, etc. related to themselves while sprinkling extra content around the map.
Full-Blown epic expansion.

I think the whole Sovangarde thing I personally wouldn't like that I want to go to an actual other place not a heaven or hell im so tired of that stuff I would rather go to Orsinium, Solsthiem, Maybe part of Cyrodil something like that none of that other world stuff unless of course it was maybe to Akavir but I highly doubt they will do that I think most likely one's are (and these are greatest to least likelyness in my opinion) Orsinium, part of Morrowind or Solsthiem, part of Cyrodil, part of Hammerfell
