Re: Umbra ? Other Missing Artifacts ?
I have to admit, the moral choices in these games are thought provoking. The Daedra ones actually made me question the morality of it all, and that's a good one. It's a reflection of how power in life often corrupts. A parable of sorts.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Oh, that book barely even counted in the lore.Gandalf wrote:The events of the Infernal City mean no Umbra. He was released from his sword, so...
But I know the Ring of Phynaster is missing. (Not like it was such a great ring, though.)
And I always felt so special in Morrowind when I wore the Dragonbone Cuirass. But now... It's not such a rare thing to have Dragon bone armor....
Also, I guess there could be a mod that brings Goldbrand back...

To me that was one of the best things about the daedric quests in Skyrim. A lot of them were like that.Mithrandir wrote:Molag's was my favorite hands down. That book is fully canonized. Everything in it happened, and many of the events are referenced in Skyrim repeatedly.VirtualWeasel wrote:Oh, that book barely even counted in the lore.Gandalf wrote:The events of the Infernal City mean no Umbra. He was released from his sword, so...

The whole moral situation of the Daedric quests is really interesting, if somewhat difficult for moral chaarcters. In fact I just begun a new less morally guided character, just to get stuck into some of these quests and get their nice rewards. Otherwise, I've been fairly limited to Dawnbreaker and Azura's Star

I agree with the T. I've even done Clavicus Vile's quest, but that doesn't automatically mean there's no Umbra.Mrs T wrote:I haven't read the responses in this thread. I'm just wondering if the title couldn't be changed to something with no spoilers.
Sure, it's about the lack of something rather than the presence of something shiny and exciting but it's still more than I'd like to know.

These artifacts aren't missing. Umbra was destroyed, Goldbrand is back in Cyrodiil with Mede's personal armoury, and Eltonbrand was an easter egg.

Yes...in the Keyes novels, besides the Infernal City business, Morrowind was rendered largely uninhabitable and the rest was invaded by Argonians. This is firmly canonized in Skyrim. Pay attention to what people say about Dunmer and Morrowind and what they say about themselves.
It's also mentioned Orsinium was sacked by Redguards and Bretons and the Orcs had to move. In a loading screen in Skyrim it says Orsinium is on Skyrim's border now. It used to be pretty far into High Rock's mountain ranges, nowhere near the border. This is also a confirmation of the events of Keyes' books.
The name of the current Emperor of Tamriel during Skyrim is Titus Mede II. Keyes introduced a new Emperor during his books - Titus Mede I, the man who took the Imperial City by force after the Elder Council failed to elect a strong Emperor. Again, a direct canonization of the novels.
One of the main plot points of the novels was the destruction of Umbra and how Clavicus Vile loses pieces of his soul. Its absence in Skyrim and other stuff about his quest strongly support the events of the novels.
In an interview with Keyes and in the forward acknowledgments of both books he thanks Kurt Kuhlmann, Bruce Nesmith, Pete Hines and Todd Howard for their notes, support and guidance. This all but confirms they wrote him out a rough history of what happens between the games and let him fill in the character details and such. All that stuff was planned out years ahead of time. MK used to talk about "Red Year" on the forums years before the books came out. A lot of us knew for a long time what was gonna happen to Morrowind for instance. It's not just some uncanon thing Keyes pulled out of his ass.

Need some of these....
Skull Crusher (Nords + Maces = Love)
Staff of Hasedoki (Not sure here tbh)
Auriel's Bow (Need a Legendary bow...)
Bow of Shadows (the whole Thieves Guild and Skeleton Key etc etc)
Chrysamere (hmm not sure here 2h w/ Ward? OP perhaps)
Daedric Crescent (That would be badass to have...)
Ice Blade of the Monarch (Use Ice Form as an Enchant)
Fang of Haynekhtnamet (We have dragons...I was hoping it would return)
Spear of Bitter Mercy (Perhaps an axe? Glaive? Think Glass Greataxe)
Stendarr's Hammer (Yeah that would be badass to...FUSRODAH the Mace)
Hopesfire? Trueflame? (Dual Wield unless Nerevarine has them)
Mace of Aevar Stone-Singer (Have it whistle or such when it swings)
Scourge (have it do the Conjuration ability of Oblivion Binding)
Dragonbone cuirass (unique Dragonbone Cuirass w/ model and ability)
Fists of Randagulf (We are in Skyrim...give em 1h+2h Dmg modifier)
Helm of Oreyn Bearclaw (This is missing...would be nice to have...)
Eleidon's Ward (wasnt even in Oblivion perhaps Skyrim? a beyond larger shield)
Bittercup (Oghma Infinium with a dickish twist)

Re: Umbra ? Other Missing Artifacts ?
A lot of those artifacts are nice, yes, but they could be handed in to the Imperial Cult in Ebonheart or the Museum of Mournhold. Not all of them but a good chunk. The Bow and Shield of Auriel were either taken to Akavir or possibly claimed by Daedra when Ghost Gate fell. I'll bet the Nerevarine took Truefire and Hopesflame to Akavir or otherwise put them somewhere for safe keeping. Maybe he or she buried them with the body of Almalexia.
The Fang of Haynekhtnamet belonged to a creature that might or might not be related to the dragons we see in Skyrim. It was one of those artifacts that's either in Akavir, buried under piles of ash or in the hands of an Argonian shaman right now.

Re: Umbra ? Other Missing Artifacts ?
My three favorite weapons from Oblivion were Shadowrend, Chillrend, and Goldbrand. I can understand why Shadowrend wouldn't be in the game (sort of) and Goldbrand has a lore reason for not being there.
I did scream with joy when I found Chillrend though. AND BETTER THAN EVER!
And I love the constant ice effect on it.
My favorite weapon by far so far.

I mean, remodel it to look more like Morrowind, and it'll be cool again.
