Umbra ? Other Missing Artifacts ?
What happened to Umbra and why did Bethesda take it out ? It's such a classic weapon. What about Goldbrand, or even Eltonbrand ? Are there other missing artifacts from previous games that have been there all along that they took out this time around ?

The events of the Infernal City mean no Umbra. He was released from his sword, so...

Re: Umbra ? Other Missing Artifacts ?
Umbra was destroyed or something similiar to being destroyed in the books, so I doubt we will be seeing that again and Goldbrand is in the possession of the Emperor as it is said the Emperor wielded Gold Brand at the Liberation of the Imperial City after the Aldmeri Dominion sacked it during the Great War.

Umbra is no more, but Clavicus Vile enchanted another similar artifact soon after. An Axe.
Goldbrand didn't appear because it's property of Titus Mede II, probably in his personal armory back in Cyrodill.

Re: Umbra ? Other Missing Artifacts ?
Well then wtf ? Bethesda should have made some more unique weapon Artifacts. Skyrim has none ... By none I mean very little. I love collecting and filling my house with things ! I never found Black Soul Gems in Oblivion that often. Nor did I Soultrap anything in that game very often. Umbra is just a classic ... Has been since Morrowind, and Morrowind it was the most fun getting.Gandalf wrote:Agreed. My Oblivion character had such fun filling Black Soul Gems.mcjordalini wrote:Ah, that makes sense. Still ! Re: Umbra ? Other Missing Artifacts ?
No unique weapon artifacts? Seriously? This game has just as many as any previous game. In fact I'm glad they replaced one of the swords with an axe, because too many of the legendary weapons are swords. We have basically one hammer - Volendrung, and the rest are swords, daggers or staves, or pieces of armor. I'm glad they finally added a battle axe artifact.

Re: Umbra ? Other Missing Artifacts ?
Well when I saw a list of available artifacts in the game it was quite small compared to Oblivion or Morrowind's. Of course ... I did look at the list when the game came out, but even then .. The names of the artifacts were red, meaning there was no wiki page for them, and that was it. :/

Re: Umbra ? Other Missing Artifacts ?
I think that unique weapons are lacking in game. I looked at the list and it was quite small and then became even smaller when I found out a lot of the weapons were just normal weapons with an enchantment. They could at least have applied a new skin if not designing more unique swords from scratch.

Re: Umbra ? Other Missing Artifacts ?
The one thing that upsets me about skyrim is no goldbrand but they make up for it with an amazing amount of other unique weapons. And about eltonbrand, that was an Easter egg and not truly an artifact. Though it is my favorite thing about ANY elder scrolls game I highly doubt it will be in anything other than morriwind again.

Goldbrand was a sad loss in my eyes, I loved that sword
. Apparently Titus II wielded it at the Battle of the Red Ring, so he may still posses it. Well, until
The Ebony Mail did make a return though as a result, and while it's been changed, it's till very cool.
Dawnbreaker's sort of the new Goldbrand in my view, and it's equally cool, although it lacks the simple style of a Katana.

Re: Umbra ? Other Missing Artifacts ?
I was happy to see Chillrend as something USABLE to me this time (I hated using short swords in Oblivion). I see that as a unique artifact.
Re: Umbra ? Other Missing Artifacts ?
I haven't read the responses in this thread. I'm just wondering if the title couldn't be changed to something with no spoilers.
Sure, it's about the lack of something rather than the presence of something shiny and exciting but it's still more than I'd like to know.

I would've loved to see Umbra in this game, if only to see how shorter it has become over the years.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Very true, probably would have been a dagger or maybe even a shiv!I would've loved to see Umbra in this game, if only to see how shorter it has become over the years.

Yeah, I agree. There might still be the possibility of it popping up again, but I do like the fact that things are changing a little. Getting some original artifacts, etc. It's good, as long as a balance is struck.

I'm glad Bethesda didn't simply replicate Oblivion's Daedric Artifact shopping list. Some new items makes the game feel...well, new, instead of recycled.

Re: Umbra ? Other Missing Artifacts ?
So the ebony mail is Boethiah's artifact this time around? My first character had a no murder policy and I was a little disappointed I couldn't do Boethiah's quest. Thought I missed out on Goldbrand. I'm assuming it's heavy armor?

Yeah, Heavy Armour, with some really nice sneaking bonuses. This video explains it.

Re: Umbra ? Other Missing Artifacts ?
It's heavy armor. It's been way nerfed from Morrowind though. It was Medium Armor there and had some insane buffs on it.

Re: Umbra ? Other Missing Artifacts ?
It has been nerfed a little, but then again, it was sort of OP in Morrowind:
Constant Effect
Resist Fire 75% on Self
Shield 50 pts on Self
Resist Magicka 20% on Self
Now it's still a great item, if a little more stealth orientated:

Oh I love the cuirass. Don't get me wrong. If I were a heavy armor user I'd be wearing it right now. I love how it breaks the stereotype that thieves and assassins must wear light armor or none, too.
My favorite non armor outfit in the entire game has to be the Jester outfit, actually. Zero DR on that one but it looks insane. I love wearing it doing my town stuff.
