Who loves the leveling system?
Sure, it may not be Morrowind, but the leveling system is a HUGE advancement over Oblivion. For instance, I'm level 18 and still don't have an Elven sword or Ebony armor (not too sure if the latter is common or not). Another thing to note is that yesterday I was doing some dungeon diving and found a Glass battleaxe, and since I use One-Handed, it was worthless to me. This is where I think the leveling system is really returning back to Morrowind's where there is almost none, and when it is implied is very subtle. Thoughts?

Re: Who loves the leveling system?
Yeah, Elven isn't common at 18, and Ebony certainly shouldn't even exist at that level.
But yeah, it's pretty good leveling, though I'm bothered by the fact that at level 28, I'm still seeing normal 'Dragons' and not Elder Dragons or Ancient Dragons...
I mean, that's really my only grievance about the leveling. But I'm starting to get that feeling you got in Oblivion, where you feel far too overpowered when you reach a higher level.
I don't know why I'm still seeing the easiest Dragons, but, it's really not humbling to kill the supposed most powerful creature in the game in 5 hits with an ebony sword.

Re: Who loves the leveling system?
The dragons are probably pretty random until a higher level. Good to know about Ebony.

Re: Who loves the leveling system?
I love the leveling system.
I am currently level 34 and I don't find Daedric or Dragon yet. I am wearing a fullset of Dragonplate and using a Daedric Greatsword, but that's only 'cause I smithed it myself. I will rarely find Ebony .. Glass and Elven is becoming somewhat common now though.
I haven't heard of these. I only see Blood Dragons, Frost Dragons, and Regular Dragons and I am level 34.

I see Elven everywhere at level 28, but Glass is super rare, and Ebony is really common...
Funny how that works.

Re: Who loves the leveling system?
Ancient Dragons are quite hard at level 50. But with 100 in smithing, alchemy and enchanting, my gear is just so OP that even if I play on Master difficulty, I one-shot most things - dragons go down easily aswell.
But yeah - I love how you rarely see higher leveled items, because in Oblivion it was just ridiculous, when a random bandit came from nowhere in full daedric.

Re: Who loves the leveling system?
I was actually to busy playing, to realize that I was not getting loads of super enchanted power loots. When I did get them, it made it sort of special. I was getting decent loots, so it was not really an issue one way or the other.

The types of Dragons are random, even at level 57, I still get a Dragon, Frost Dragon, Blood Dragon, as well as the Elder and Ancient Dragons. Unfortunatley, I do not know what the level list is for them. IIRC, I saw an Elder Dragon at around level 30ish.

Re: Who loves the leveling system?
yep levelling is good and also makes skills like smithing and enchanting more effective. I got full ebony set in early 20s with little item farming and smithing. In those levels vendors sell ebony ingots in small number -not often but they sell- and you can make great set for yourself

Re: Who loves the leveling system?
I really like the perk system and leveling up based on all skills, I think those were good changes. The perk system brings roleplaying into the TES system stronger than ever as you are forced to specialize. Gaining levels faster and having each one really define your character's role more? Win-win if you ask me.
As for the loot scaling, I miss Morrowind's hand-placed stuff a lot. They did better than Oblivion this time for sure, but it's still too random for me. That's not a deal-breaker though, it's still a great game.

Re: Who loves the leveling system?
I agree with you a lot on Morrowind's hand-placed loot. I think Skyrim should have hand-placed loot (like artifacts) and the other stuff should just be random loot.StingingVelvet wrote:I really like the perk system and leveling up based on all skills, I think those were good changes. Re: Who loves the leveling system?
I don't think you're a high enough level to have seen the "wonders" of the leveling system yet. I still don't really like how it works. It's not exactly subtle. At level 35, all you will find is glass. Glass, glass, glass. I'm level 51, and in the last two days I've found 5 ebony daggers, 6 ebony swords, 8 ebony war axes, 2 ebony battle axes, an ebony greatsword, an ebony shield, ebony boots, and an ebony helmet. Coincidence? I think not haha.
Re: Who loves the leveling system?
I think that the OP meant the Loot Level Scaling System... not the skills/leveling system.
It that is the case, then maybe editing the title to make it more clear?

Re: Who loves the leveling system?
I'm level 32 and I'm finding a good amount of variety in my loot. A good amount of glass than before, with a nice mix of Ebony. My smithing is up to Ebony right now, so I can make everything I can find.

Re: Who loves the leveling system?
At level 17 (or 18), i found an Ebony sword at Arcwind Point. Not sure if that's a spoiler?
Level 21 i found a Glass bow. Level 23 two pairs of Glass gauntlets.
Before i found my Ebony sword i had found two Elven swords. Oddly enough i haven't found any orcish swords. But yeah, i really enjoy the leveling.

Re: Who loves the leveling system?
You can find ebony/glass and such early on by random chance. My first character, a spellsword, found an ebony sword at like level 15, which was pretty insane. I used that same sword the rest of my time with that character.Danny wrote:At level 17 (or 18), i found an Ebony sword at Arcwind Point. Not sure if that's a spoiler?Spoiler:

Re: Who loves the leveling system?
I love the levelling system actually, I really am enjoying it. With Oblivion and Morrowind I used to plan my levels, I used to have a sheet of paper sitting next to me to record level ups, and it was a bit of a pain in an otherwise great experience. Now, I just try to keep my major skills fairly equal, by switching up my attacks, etc. and I level as I please. Now the hard thing is deciding which perks to take

Re: Who loves the leveling system?
The leveling system, as in perks and health/magicka/stamina is fine. The leveled enemies, loot, and quest rewards, however, are complete garbage.
Seriously Bethesda, just get rid of scaling all together. All scaling does is hide poor game design. You can make it obvious when there's a high level dungeon you shouldn't enter, by making it look epic/scary, like Labyrinthian.
I honestly think they did the dragons badly in regards to scaling and the main quest. Low level dragons should be around level 30. The quest should be civil war up until a point where dragons become involved, at which point you find out that you're Dovakiin.

Bandits and such still use bad weapons... which is good to know. I find good stuff in chests, but rarely is there OP stuff (anything over orcish) anywhere else.
I'm on a rollercoaster that only goes up

I absolutely love the leveling system. I am level 52 (i really am way to much of a nerd for my own good) and i have not yet seen a random loot of daedric. Maybe its cause im in the snowy mountains alot, but i almost never see just "dragons" anymore. The ones i face are always frost it seems like. And when i do go down into the plains its blood.

Re: Who loves the leveling system?
The rolling crash of the waterfalls masked the heavy tread of the adventurers' approach. Casandra Serein and her huskarl Lydia hopped from boulder to glistening boulder as the midday sun caught the spray in arcs of color. Even in this light, however, the edifice above the entrance to Darkwater Pass cast an air of gloom on the scene. A chord of scary music filled the air.dkjestrup wrote: ...All scaling does is hide poor game design. Lydia wiped her brow. "Shall we go in?"
Casandra cocked her head and pointed skyward. "Didn't you just hear that quick piece of atmospheric music?"
"Uhhhhh— yeah."
Cassie's leather-clad finger thumped against Lydia's steel cuirass. "That means 'No'. Let's go chase some butterflies instead."
"You're not making much of an impression, thane."
"Believe you me: when I'm good and ready, the most lasting impression I will make will be some six inches in depth placed just behind the left collarbone."
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.
