Someone tried to assassinate me
Who else had had a dark brotherhood assassin after them? I did a quick search and couldn't find anything on this...
She wasn't that hard to kill, but I'd really like to know what triggered the event. As far as I know the only person I've stolen from is Belethor (accident with book) and he sent thugs after me already. Unlike the thug's note though, this one's not signed by the contractor but by the dark brotherhood leader (I'll be doing their quests later with a different character).

I have had several assassins attack me, but sadly I have no idea of what causes these attacks...

My first character was attacked by a dark brotherhood assassin at least 15 times. I assuming this changes if you join the DB, but I never did.

Re: Someone tried to assassinate me
I'll need someone else to confirm it, but I'm fairly certain that as you become famous you may be targeted by assassins, assuming your fame is as a good person not a master criminal

Re: Someone tried to assassinate me
a guard of riften hired three mercenaries to kill me because I stole an iron dagger to increase my pickpocketing skill...... Did that dagger really have /that/ much sentimental value?

Re: Someone tried to assassinate me
Yup, as I progress thru the good quests, I had more and more attacks from the DB Assassins.
They stopped when I started the Thieves Guild Quests, and of course after joining the DB.

I just chalked it up to a bunch of Dark Brotherhood rookies using me for target practice...

They do, indeed. Most of them aren't even trying to be sneaky. I've only had one DB assassin manage to sneak up on my tank...not that it mattered, as I took her out in no time at all.Dark Spark wrote:I just chalked it up to a bunch of Dark Brotherhood rookies using me for target practice...

Re: Someone tried to assassinate me
It's because once you reach a certain amount of fame, they come after you. There is no contractor as such, they just come at you according to the guide. I've never had the following happen to me, but also if you are truly evil, the companions come after you assuming you have not yet joined them (All named generically 'Companion').
Hired thugs tend to come after you if you wrong someone in the cities, such as theft, and either Imperial Guards or Stormcloaks come after you if you kill one of their own for no reason (i.e. a Stormcloak Courier).
The guide does not state this, but has anyone ever been pursued by the Thalmor? I really want to kill more of them. I pray to Talos almost all the time too. If it happens, please tell me.

Re: Someone tried to assassinate me
There was a shop owner that got killed when a dragon attacked in Winterhold, and so I looted her body,
and then I went to her shop and took what I pleased.
I had never had any interaction with the owner or her shop before this, and about an hour after ransacking her shop,
I was attacked by hired thugs who had a contract issued by the dead store owner wanting me dead for theft!
I've been attacked several times by the D.B. as well, and the contracts on them have a name, (always the same one)
but I've yet to meet this person to express my desire for them to stop.
When I do though, he'll learn that I don't need the D.B. to get the job done.

Re: Someone tried to assassinate me
Yes, I have. On my way out of Iverstead, I came across three Thalmor who left me alone until I struck up a conversation with the fellow trailing the line. It was an innocent enough chat until the Thalmor agent asked if I worshipped Talos. I chose the [Stay Slient] dialogue option rather than admit or deny it...MathiasFlynnias wrote: ...The guide does not state this, but has anyone ever been pursued by the Thalmor? ...even that was enough for him to decide to kill me. He attacked. I retaliated. That was the first time I discovered that fresh-looted Elven Light Armor doesn't look good on my Imperial. The other two agents had walked ahead far enough that they never came to his assistance, and I didn't linger long enough to find out.
Some time passed before I came across another three Thalmor agents on the road from the White River up to Helgen. They attacked me on sight. I killed the last fellow by shouting him off the cliff and watching his body dash upon the ground near the Embershard Mine entrance. One of these guys had a Justiciar death-warrant with my name on it. It was a bit of a compliment, really— they termed me as 'dangerous'.

Re: Someone tried to assassinate me
I guess all those notes about not everyone wanting the return of the dragonborn were right...
I like how Bethesda made sure you felt like someone important, someone who might have made powerful enough enemies who might want to see you dead.
If I knew where the DB's headquarters were, I'd nonchalantly drop all the assassin contracts at their front door, and laugh as I walked away.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v43/u ... Sifnar.jpg I was tasked with stealing 500 gold worth of stuff from Windhelm so I went to the palace and made sure no one saw me as I swiped the stuff from the alchemists room. I then proceeded to get attacked by 3 thugs a bunch of ingame days later, makes me wonder how this guy knew? I'm on my way to visit him soon after I selll some things here in whiterune

Re: Someone tried to assassinate me
i just had it on my new character at level 7, i hadnt even started the main quest properly yet just killed a few bandits and made some money and had assassins sent after me, before anyone knew i was dragonborn, it was very strange as it never happened on my other character who near the end i got bored with and killed alot of people. i like the idea of dropping the notes at the door
ill have to keep hold of them until i find it! then leave a very big pile outside!

Re: Someone tried to assassinate me
I've had DB assassins attack me, and gangs of thugs in full steel armor. Apparently when you wrong someone in this game, they occasionally try to kill you. This can range from killing their family member to stealing a bottle of ale from their house or shop.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Re: Someone tried to assassinate me
I've stolen 20,000 to 50,000 gold in items AT LEAST. I have 100 Pickpocket. I steal things all the time. I've only had one assassin try to kill me and that was very early in the game before I did much... Why don't I ever get attacked!? (I've pickpocketed random NPC's, guards, and Jarls............
)

Re: Someone tried to assassinate me
I've had a few sent after me simply for stealing some ingots from the blacksmith, and when i came back he acted as if nothing happened, i didn't kill him since he's a blacksmith and that hurts me more than him to lose a vendor, but i find it stupid you can't confront them after the hit. They literally act as if nothing happened.

Re: Someone tried to assassinate me
I had one DB assassin try to kill my first character, an Imperial spellsword who did the legion and companion questlines. I would assume it's triggered by certain quests you do and the outcomes of those quests.

Re: Someone tried to assassinate me
I think they can happen based upon stealing/killing certain things/NPCs regardless of whether your caught. It seems as a way of adding a sense of immersion by showing NPC's do notice missing items and it adds some consequences for even master thieves.

Re: Someone tried to assassinate me
I had this happen to me a couple of times, and I admit I was thrown off the first time it happened. I'm happy Bethesda added that into the game.
