But on the main page it says "congratulations!!! we've gained over 10.000 members this year. But it says nothing about 95% being spambot. I understand how hard it is keeping up a forum so i'll stop the arguing.

Bit of a double-edged sword though isn't it? I think we're far more fortunate to have Jeff added to our line up of distinguished mods than he is to land up in that line up!Undead(-)Necro wrote:...Congrats Jeff....
As to the spambots, surely the fact that so many of them have been prevented from posting shows how well the boards are working??

I'm aware of that. But i was just shocked of so many bots registering every day. Thought it would slow the server down quite a bit. But i don't know anything about servers so I could be wrong.

That was 10,000 Articles, and it was for the Wiki, not the Board/Forums.Undead(-)Necro wrote:But on the main page it says "congratulations!!! we've gained over 10.000 members this year. There is one of those box things. Catpech, or something. Not all, but some bots are programmed to get around those. It is also not the bots/spammers that register which slow the board/wiki down, it is those that "Attempt" to register, and fail, that do the most harm. If 15 get through, there are probably 150 that don't.
They are also not all bots. They are probably human, and then don't post, when they realize they can not post links.
Those that post, usually do so, to get more hits on searches for their username.
There are alot of lame people in the world. Who knows why the do what they do...???

There is no official duty description. What I tend to do, as most mods do, at most Boards; not in any particular order:
Stoping, locking, and deleting the spam, plus banning the user.
Monitoring the Board/Forums, to make sure things don't get out of hand.
Making sure the Board is Fun and Friendly, plus Family Safe.
Notifiying the Admins if there is any board issues.
Making sure that the Forums are a good reflection of the Wiki.
Making sure that Daveh doesn't get in trouble due to member misconduct.
A good day is if there is nothing to do. The sign of a good Board/Forum, is one that can survive without Official Moderation. One where the Members keep things under control, by setting good examples, and guiding new Members.
Most days, The UESP Forums are like that.

Exactlly
Plus, content that requires people to be a certain age.
Sure they can get it elsewhere, but those places usually have a disclaimer, to keep them from getting into trouble. They don't have one here.

I've been to British school, American school, and to school in Canada.
When I was in Brit. school I purposely spelled without the for the sole purpose of annoying the teacher, having her not being able to make me add the , as that is "culturally insensitive", and when I was in American school I purposely added the because they can't say anything to that either, and when I was in Canada, well they accepted both...
