Why do they all attack me for killing a chicken?

Post by imsorrisuck »

I killed a chicken in River Wood thinking it would be fun. All the sudden the whole town was after me trying to kill me for killing a chicken! Seems a little outrageous!

Lol, i did exactly the same thing. I was throwing around my Fury spell (playing as Altmer), and hit a chicken by mistake... yikes, you would have thought i'd called Cheryl Cole a slut in a Newcastle pub. Total mayhem, and i was toast., as i'd just started the game.
Decided to load up an earlier save....

It's an owned chicken. You basically killed their property.

In my experience, If I set a human on fire, I lower my hands pay 40g and Its done

If I set a chicken on fire, GG BRO GG, They wont stop attacking EVER

I was one time heroically saving a town from a colossal dragon, when my powerful but wild flames accidentally scorched one of their chickens
The entire town instantly felt that I was the bigger threat to the city than the Dragon and killed me

Yeah, I've always felt the whole bounty system was a bit borked. Like the one quest in the Dark Brotherhood questline where you have to
Spoiler:
kill Vittoria Vici.
Sure, you'll probably get caught trying to escape, but you just hand them 1000 gold and they're perfectly content to let you go about your business. Kills the realism a bit, IMO.

Maybe but too realistic is also problematic

A balance would be nice. Like, you can choose to pay gold to avoid jailtime for minor things like thievery or assault, but you're forced to either resist arrest or go to jail for x amount of time if you murder someone.

It'd be better if you could directly compensate the person for doing something so minor as slaying a chicken.

UH, killed WHAT realism? This is a game about DRAGONS, MAGIC SPELLS, and many other things of that sort. Realism in this game can only be said about the graphics.

What I dont understand is how they can be a witness to a crime...cows do the exact same thing! Killed someone (wanted their armor...really wanted it) and it gave me 1000 bounty! Killed the nearest cow after realising..."Last witness killed. 1000 bounty lost from The Reach". hmmm...

back on topic, it's someones property, so they will attack you for it. There should be an option to compensate for it though...have you tried yielding or anything?

The funniest thing, I've heard this exact same "killed a chicken in Riverwood" story so many times you'd think it were a scripted event

It's because we're all homicidal maniacs.

The guy behind the literal Skyrim trailer (Tobuscus) did that in his Let's Play as well. By the way, you should check that one out. He's seriously funny. Mostly because he has no freaking idea about what he's doing.

Never, ever, shield bash a Chicken. I learned that lesson when the town Blacksmith turned me into a Khajiit shishkebob five minutes in to the game.

I know that, but you'd think the crime system would make a little more sense. I mean, come on. Animals counting as witnesses to crimes when they can't even tell anyone what happened? Sure,
