Scariest Skyrim Mob So Far?

Post by Squiver »

With the exponentially increased quality of the graphics this time around the monsters, unlike their predecessors, and especially in first person, just seem all the more "real" this time around.

As such, which mobs so far have had you putting off dungeons, creeping around with a bow in hand?

My issue is, I really, really hate the Draugr; the way they come out at you from the wall, and the nasty sound they make, combined with the claustrophobia of the dungeons - I've played 40+ hours now and I still haven't even gotten the horn of Jurgen Windcaller. Hate them so much I've pretty much gone full stealth fire mage, and I'm putting down a fresh fire rune every time I turn a corner, just so they don't get close to me - and it's still not enough.

Necromancers. I think they are worse than Draugr, because when I find them together, the Necromancers just resurrect the other enemies I kill, so it feels like I'm going nowhere.
To see the world in a grain of sand
And heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour.

Spiders. I was in a cave not long ago... I saw 3 giant ones hanging above... I literally ran out of the area and had to muster enough courage before I went back, only to run again. 4 attempts later I finally ran in there and killed them.

So yes, spiders.

Glenmoril witches.

I think everyone who has done that quest will agree.

It's a companion quest. I almost didn't finish it, I felt like a kid playing Ocarina of Time all over again.

Also, I was attacked by a skeever from behind while fighting one. I literally flew off the chair.

I've yet to encounter something in this game that's as scary as the zombies in Oblivion.

I too hated the Zombies in Oblivion. But nonetheless, Hagravens [Sp?] and Chaurus I despise. Not so much fear, just despise. To a smaller degree, the falmer. But I am just so happy they are in the game to care.

During a Thieves Guild quest where you are running with a partner through a Nord barrow, I ran across a room that literally contained eight Draugr Death Overlords, and all the doors slammed shut.

I really hate the noise Chaurus make. Couldn't care less how many legs they have, just don't like the clicky sound.

Wisp Mothers. Definitely Wisp Mothers. There's not much that's visually frightening about them, but I find them scary to fight. Also, Dwemer ruins. All that sound of machinery muffling the sounds of the emotionless automatons...

I'll second that. The first time I fought a wispmother, there were a bunch of wisps floating around and I had no idea they were enemies. I thought they were some kind of nifty "magic" lights or something, and so when the wispmother showed herself, all of a sudden I'm surrounded by enemies. I think I must have used all the potions in my bag on that fight.

I would say the first time I went into shimmermist caves at level 4 and saw falmer

I have to ask, why is everyone so happy that Falmer are in the game? (for the benefit of someone who doesn't know much about TES lore)

Because they've always been heavily alluded to in the lore but have never actually appeared. So it's fleshing out (and quite well) a race that has so far only been an absent presence in the texts.

I love the magic battles. Especially the ones between NPCs, since I'm far above their power.

The Falmer are scary, I agree. They look nothing like beautiful snow elves...I think it's awesome they're included though, I just wish they didn't look quite as much as goblins, and that we could learn more about what happened to them.

And yes, the Glenmoril Witches sound freakish. They're darn well made though, great work on Bethesda's part. I thought they'd just be some female Altmer or something. I was so very very wrong.
