Berit the man

Post by Rhcpftw »

Greetings to you

So this is a place for everyone to share some name fails by Bethesda's part. Not whining, mainly poking some fun.

I visited some town in the south, ugh, Falkreath, I think it was? Anywho, I picked up a quest and a guy said his battle companion had died - Berit. Sad, but it's always nice that the vikings have equal gender roles, right?

So I get a quest to deliver some ashes to a priest, and he says that Berit...was a man? Really? Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that a woman's name in Scandinavia (and maybe Iceland)?

Also, in Morrowind, we had a man with the name of "Lillemor", which basically means 'Little mother', if my Nordic is correct.

I personally find this entertaining as hell. Have you found anything similar?

I noticed this as well. And yes, you are correct.
She used to baby me, I was her baby doll. I used to chase her around, she was my basketball.

And you are also correct about "lillemor", though it was more used back in the old days. :)

Lillemor has never been a male name. I can assure you of that.

Let's hope that somewhere there's a female Erik...Probably won't happen, considering it's a pretty international name. Still though...

I read a series of books by David Eddings in which there was a young man named Berit, so it appears Bethesda aren't the only one to use that name for a male character

Don't forget the cultural conflicts :) I can't think of any ingame examples but I remember Bujold writing a story with a main character called Dag. That's fine as a Scandanavian name (Daylight) but as an English name? Its more common usage is dung coated wool, a person who is a fool etc which is not okay to call a character :) Apologies None and anyone else from the Skyrim Region :)

It has in Skyrim :P
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.
