why can't (spoilers) robes be worn with helmets?

why can't my arhcmage's robes be worn with helmets (specifically elven helmet of major destruction), but it can be worn with other headgear (morokei, only one I have available). but my novice/expert robes of _______ can be worn with any headgear. they're both robes!! very odd.

because the archmage's robes comes with a hood attached so the only headgear you can wear is masks.

I suggest calling them Mage Hoodies

Most of the names of robes with hoods are preceded by the word "Hooded", ie. "Hooded Black Mages Robes" I think the robes you are referring to are the only ones who go against that, since they have a unique name.
