Illusion

Post by The Craft »

Is anyone else upset with how much variety Illusion lost? They took out 4 effects(paralyze, light, silence(I think), and charm) without adding anything new except clairvoyance. It's always been my favorite magic skill, and know it's the only one I don't think I'll try.

Illusion is my highest skill, slightly higher than destruction. I often use it to make bandits kill each other. :)

And I'm pretty sure Muffle is new. Muffle is also an extremely good way to level Illusion ridiculously fast. At lower levels, it only takes one or two castings to increase Illusion.

I'm more disappointed with Alteration to be honest. Also, did they remove the detect enemy spells? Those would be very useful for sneaking.

Alteration has kept me alive so many times. Stoneflesh is a god send, actually makes my Spellsword viable. Wish I could cast it on Lydia though.

Just wait until you get invisibility. Fury (or better yet, Frenzy) in one hand, Invisibility in the other. You will BREAK PEOPLE. They will bow to you.

Sometimes I like to cast frenzy on someone relatively far away, and then cast fear on another person closer up, so they flee from me... right into their crazed "ally". :)

Light is still around, its in alteration now
Detect Life exists as well AND they added Detect Death

Alteration has always been my favorite and always will be

Illusion is only ever used for Stealth/Mage characters

On a true mage Illusion is lame unless youre going for "control" or "mosh pits"

Detect enemy spells were moved to Alteration, and I was counting muffle as chameleon with how similar they are. Also I don't Illusion is bad just boring, I just don't like how almost everything now is calm, fear, or frenzy

90% of Mysticism spells were moved into Alteration

Soul Trap went to Conjuration

As Maiq said - Maiq is very practical, he has no need for Mysticism

So far I can't say I've been impressed with any of the schools of magic. Restoration has healing spells, and that makes it automatically the best, but I'm glad my first character wasn't a mage. The spells I see for Alteration and Illusion in particular seem kinda sad. Seriously, is there a single illusion spell besides Clairvoyance that doesn't just control others? So many things they could do with "Illusion," and it seems like the school is even less robust than before. I'm not even sure if I'll work up to using invisibility at this rate.

I can't decide between restoration and destruction. Restoration has saved my ass so many times, but Destruction allows me to kick others asses...

Anyone else miffed they removed feather. With that gone and the removal of stats to boost (strength) my coin purse it hurting a lot more here than in Oblivion.

Destruction has never really been nuanced and interesting until now. It has the greatest variety of spells and they really did a good job with it.

Conjuration, bound weapons are cool looking and there's something insanely satisfying to walk into a place unarmed, summoning up a sword in each hand, and bringing the pain. Also I was completely against the Frost Atronach's new look, but now I love it to pieces. His massive overhead smash attack in wonderfully destructive (I watched him blow up multiple forsworn off a cliff, their screams and the sound of wet thuds was...exquisite...)
