Re: Beginner's Questions About Skyrim
Anyone know if timing a block provides any benefit over holding block, or is this information outdated?

Re: Beginner's Questions About Skyrim
I'm having problems with conjuring, I have multiple summons, all of which are at my level for my skill (I'm apprentice and I have summon Flame Atronach and Summon Familiar), but every time I go to cast them, I can't. It's not a lack of Magicka, or skill level, my character does the casting animation, but when I let go, nothing is summoned and my magicka returns like I haven't spent it. I can summon bound weapons no problem and I used to be able to summon the familiar, but when I learned Fire Atronach and got my Conjuration up to the Apprentice level (with perk), I can't summon anything...
It's rather frustrating since I'm a mage...

Hold the spell, cast it at the ground somewhere. It has to be close enough to actually summon it, and you need to point where, so I assume you have to point at the ground.

Re: Beginner's Questions About Skyrim
That wasn't the issue, I could point at the ground in front of me, but the targeting would remain red, not detecting the ground.
It resolved itself any way, after getting another conjuration perk I can now detect the ground with conjures

Where do you get more powerful spells? I mean... the starting spells are starting to lose their effectiveness, and I want a more powerful duration spell...

Re: Beginner's Questions About Skyrim
The Thalmor are an Altmeri organisation which controls the Aldmeri Dominion (Alinor and Valenwood). They were once the strongest rivals of the Septim Empire, but they were dissolved once Tiber conquered Valenwood. They have returned in the 4th Era, and fought against the Empire in The Great War, which ended with the Concordant for White Gold. Now, they aim to remove all Talos worship from the Empire.

Does anyone know what is the best weapon to use against Dwemer spheres? I'm a lightning and shield mage at the moment and they are really giving me a hard time.
Re: Beginner's Questions About Skyrim
Having a hard time against those as well. When I have trouble, I do one of two things;CriminalScum wrote:Does anyone know what is the best weapon to use against Dwemer spheres? I'm a lightning and shield mage at the moment and they are really giving me a hard time.
- Snipe them from afar with a bow, with extra damage. As soon as it's hit, sneak away until you're undetected once more. Rinse, lather, repeat.
- Summon something that will tank it, and then just try to damage it as quickly as possible

Thanks mate. I ended up doing what you said. Sniping and running. Yeah I'm really loving the combat at the moment. The different combinations of weapons, spells and shields feels really polished and varied.CX gamer wrote:Having a hard time against those as well. Unlike in Oblivion, you can't really dodge every hit by walking backwards.

Think Saxon, or Medieval Scandinavia: Housecarls are either non-servile menservants, or household troops in personal service of a Lord or King, somewhat equivalent to a bodyguard.

Re: Beginner's Questions About Skyrim
I haven't encountered anything like that in Skyrim yet, but this problem reminds me of a book I read in Skyrim— what saved our protagonist in the end was a frost-based spell which froze the machinery and cooled off the steam which powered the thing.CriminalScum wrote:Does anyone know what is the best weapon to use against Dwemer spheres? I wonder if that'll do the trick here.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Thanks for that. Even though I managed to get through this particular part, I still have trouble with the Dwemer machines. Now I'll just find myself a nice frost spell. Oh and I faced the machines during part of the College of Winterhold questline.Dark Spark wrote:I haven't encountered anything like that in Skyrim yet, but this problem reminds me of a book I read in Skyrim— what saved our protagonist in the end was a frost-based spell which froze the machinery and cooled off the steam which powered the thing.CriminalScum wrote:Does anyone know what is the best weapon to use against Dwemer spheres? Ah, okay. And the often-mentioned Lydia is one of those, I see.OblivionDuruza wrote:Think Saxon, or Medieval Scandinavia: Housecarls are either non-servile menservants, or household troops in personal service of a Lord or King, somewhat equivalent to a bodyguard.

Negative. Dwemer constructs are immune to frost. I have found that one of the dragon shouts is rather effective:CriminalScum wrote:Thanks for that. This drains armor and also drains life. So if you have a damage armor effect, you might have some luck.Spoiler:

Does anyone know if you can hotkey more than 2 items? I only seem to be able to do 2 at once its really annoying, in Oblivion you could hotkey 8 things, so am I just being stupid or is 2 the limit in Skyrim? I'm on the Xbox.

Re: Beginner's Questions About Skyrim
You can kind of have four. If you equip something in your hand, then save a favorite Item, and equip that item to the occupied hand, when you unequip it again, the item you manually equipped there with still be there.
I.e. manually equip a torch. Favorite a bow. Tap Left once to equip the bow, tap left again to unequip it, and you'll be holding your torch again.

I don't know how it works on 360, but on PC when you pull up your favorites menu directly, by hitting Q, you can then select 1-8 hotkeys by highlighting the item, and pressing the designated key.
