Absurdly Powerful Animals
Absurdly Powerful Animals
So my Breton can fry bandits day and night with his sword, cleave through zombie limbs, and shout down dragons, but, damn, are those animals tough.
Lions, tigers, and bears, oh no!
Anyone else think that the animals, particularly the bears and sabre-cats, are too powerful?

Go hit a human then try to hit a bear, which one is tougher?

I don't know if its me, but I just think the combat style in this game is so chaotic that anything can happen really. It's good because it's how combat should be, there are times where I can cleave a bear in two hits from my steel greatsword (lvl 12 btw) and other times it does me in with only two hits. Personally, I still find the dragons to be the hardest fights, giants pack a lot of power in their hits, but they're easy to dodge and most of the time

They definitely become easier as you get combat perks. At level 15 I take down Sabre cats with 2 hits almost all the time

Re: Absurdly Powerful Animals
It's not that I don't expect sabre-cats to be powerful, just that they can be absurdly so. It doesn't help that you encounter these animals mostly in the wild and often far from an autosave point. Finding out you lost 30 mins because of a freaking cat is annoying,

Re: Absurdly Powerful Animals
In the beginning everything was tough for me. Bandits would gang up and I would get my head chopped off, Bears eat my face and I would die a bunch. But after you get magical equipment, it turns the tide in your favor. One thing I love and hate is how powerful bows and arrows are now. I get one shot kills all the time. But in a big fight, one enemy archer can really hurt you if you don't get to him/her. And as it was said earlier, sometimes you just gotta run.

Gets easier, trust me, I brush aside sabre-cats and the like. Giants are still a pain, but I like knowing I'm still in danger from a wild threat. And I LOVE fighting blood dragons, nice challenge. I hope they have more tougher versions of dragons later on, to be honest.

Well, to be honest, I'd reload the game and run the other way, heart racing, with a smile on my face. = )

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really tough. They hit really hard. And anything that uses frost is a pain as well. Not only is it damaging but drains your stamina fast.FrostyInferno016 wrote:Might sound bad on my part, my I find Whisp Mothers a bit of a challenge...anyone else?

Re: Absurdly Powerful Animals
At level 22 I have no real problems with any dragon but I usually get to reload a few times everytime I face a Frost Troll. I don't think this makes the game worse though. It would suck if the dragons were all super hard and it would suck if there were no hard enemies so...

At level 32 the biggest problem are Ancient Dragons (1-2 hits me, atleast)- giants, frost dragons, blood dragons, elder dragons, mammoths, sabre cats, ice trolls and the like are pretty easy, and can often be killed with a single shout or a couple of arrows (including sneak-attacks).

As a lvl 26 mage, I find dragons to be absurdly easy. The Impact perk just completely debilitates them. Sure, I'm incredibly squishy (430 magicka and 160 health ^.^), but more often than not, I kill the dragon before it even gets one hit in, simply because I stagger it every time it's about to do something.
Those bears and trolls, though. They tear me apart.

I love how I come up to a hill and I see a bear just standing at the top looking down at me, roaring and standing on its hindlegs. They never provoke the attack unless you get too close, just like real bearsThose bears and trolls, though. They tear me apart.
I agree with all of you; Dragons get easy pretty quick, yet have a difficulty spike later on, and that animals and other feeble looking creatures cause so serious unexpected damage. I am, however, almost loathing my highest difficulty play through. Its going to EXTREMELY hard, but at least there is whirlwind spirit to get my sorry butt away from battle!

I love being forced to run from a fight, its a aspect of gameplay that I feel got/is looked over too much by the gaming community and developers.
I agree fully! I encountered a Blood Dragon a day ago, now I encountered them before that and killed them after some issues. However, I play as a Dumner, so I have the fire resist...This one used frost, so when it attacked me, I felt the full brunt of it's attack. I realized with no cold resist potions, and very little health potions, I was fighting a losing battle..Well, I realized this after 3 deaths, but I ran the fourth time.
I liked that actually, it's the game telling me it just set the bar higher, and it's a challenge I always accept gladly! I'll go back there when I'm stronger and show it I am ready for the bar to be raised some more!

Level 18 still. No troubles at all with dragons since I've, y'know, got a bow and a healing spell. Plus I can chop them up pretty decently if they do land near me.
The "normal" enemies are more challenging, though. Trolls, sabre cats, frost spectres (or whatever those things are called), did I mention trolls?

Trolls are obscenely tough but I managed to take one down just short of level 10 with the help of Berserker and a 7 second paralysis potion I snatched from some dungeon

Well, if you happen to be near any sort of slope or semi-high surface with a tough enemy, I recommend shouting them off. So long as they are small enough to feel the maximum effect of Unrelenting Force, it should work every time.

Re: Absurdly Powerful Animals
I can't even remember how many times I had reload when climbing Hrothgar. I got stuck fighting a snow saber tooth AND and ice wraith! And I've been putting the majority of my perks into sneaking and bow, so I'm not so great with encounters that make you go toe-toe with the enemy.
I gotta say I LOVE the fact that I get killed by enemies because I'm not ready for them yet. And the super hard animals really fit Skyrim's harsh environment.
OMG those Deathlord Draugrs! So crazy hard for me! Thank goodness for NPCs that don't die.

Re: Absurdly Powerful Animals
As a 22 or so level mage (conjuring and destruction), I had no problem with saber cats, bears, dragons, draugr. I become 26th level and everything takes me down easily. I fought a blood dragon about 5 days ago with no problem, last night at Eldersblood peak, dead in 5 seconds. When I finally was able to put it down (hiding in a crevice on a cliff) and went to claim my prize, BOOM! Ice Troll ambush, and I forgot to save.

Re: Absurdly Powerful Animals
i still don't see how any one can think this, I can take on bears, trolls, and giants and bring them down easily in about 20-30 seconds. They're attacks recoil them too much, and leave open spaces. I don't think it's been noticed yet or brought to most people's attention, but most of those "super-strong" enemies have severe weaknesses and openings.
-Trolls: take a good 2 seconds to do that double arm swing they do (and if you position yourself just right you can hit them while they continue to hit), also they're highly susceptible to power attacks( almost always staggers)
-Giants: Heavy, yet very slow power hits, (lets you get a good 3-4 hits with one handed, and 2 with two handed) plus the block parry (lft bmp+right bmp) almost always interrupts their attacks
-Bears: harder than the other two to find weaknesses however, getting an angle on them (higher platform etc) is great since they can't climb up as easily as the other two, plus they are sometimes too long, so try to swing around them and hit them from behind.
I wish I could say the same for higher level dragons (blood up basically) , [&@%!] shouts always off-sets the obvious loop around, only massive damage dealing attacks stagger them.

I didn't have a problem with Dragons until the Ancients showed up. When they land I run, they can easily kill me with a single bite.
