Tell me what you think of my ideas!

Post by Pandamatak »

Idea 1 (taken directly from my post in the official forums).
Playing as a mage or a Jack of All Trades is extremely difficult now because of the constant switching. Mages have to also switch between several spell types (runes, constant, heal, etc.) so the flow of a battle is easily interrupted by constant switching.

Simple and easy to add suggestion, I hope to see this in some future patch or update ;-)

Basically, each of the four d-pad buttons corresponds to a separate "favourite wheel" so what was 16 items in one favourites list would now become 4 per wheel or so.

Here's how the average player might use it: (This isn't necessarily how a certain player may arrange their wheels, just an example.)

Wheel 1: Spells
Wheel 2: Apparel
Wheel 3: Weapons
Wheel 4: Misc.

Very organised. The way one would add to the favourites would be by clicking the d-pad wheel they would like to assign it to when the item is selected. For example, if I wanted to add the spell Clairvoyance to the wheel I get when I press left on d-pad, I would, while selecting, or, for lack of a better term, mouse-overing, the spell, press left on the d-pad. Simple, easy.

Or, if people insist on keeping left and right as hotkeys, at least give us two wheels (up and down) because as of now the only thing they do is move to the very top or bottom of the list (and productivity would remain unaffected because if you split the wheel into two half, accessing the bottom wheel would mean selecting the lowest item.

A great thing about the elder scrolls series is the presentation, it's a fun game to watch, and it would be great if the player didn't have to pause every time they wanted to show off a new spell effect. Combat like this in real time would not only prove to be a convenience, but more immersive and would allow players to engage in combat more fluently, without having abrupt breaks inbetween that throw their mind off even the slightest.

Now: Some more harder to implement (maybe) but gameplay enriching options.

-Option to make browsing the favourites menu a real-time activity.

-Hotkeys within the favourites menu - assign keys to instantly equip certain items after you've accessed said menu. For example, RB could jump to a forst spell, while LB could jump to a flame spell. While not just moving to that option, it will equip it instantly.

-Up on d-pad gives favourites menu while all other directions correspond to hotkeys.

-Extended hotkeys; double tapping or holding a direction triggers a different item. An interesting use would be to have right on d-pad give an Adept-level flame spell, while double tapping right gives a Apprentice-level and holding it gives a novice level. A messy solution but completely optional

-Hotkey-wheel switching. This may be difficult to understand at first, but here is how it works. Similar to the second option (Hotkeys within the favourites menu) but these hotkeys would instead be directions on the d-pad. By pressing any selected hotkey (in-game, not in the menu), you would equip the item it corresponds to in the wheel you are currently in. To switch wheels you would have to use the d-pad and select a separate category. The average player would make use of this by having a wheel for city gear, exploring gear, and boss gear. So when entering a city, they would switch into the corresponding wheel.
Idea 2 (also taken directly from the official forums)
What I'm referring to is the fact that in Oblivion you could view your character model while equipping different pieces of equipment, and watch as the model updates in real time (so you can see what your character looks like with said apparel).

Well, I thought this could be easily accomplished by sheathing your weapon and going into third person to see your character model from the front. From this point, you can open up your menu and equip different things. Skyrim DOES update these things in real time. The only thing preventing us from viewing our character is the fact that the third person camera always puts the player to the left of the camera.

So, what we have now is a menu that covers up the player model, because the items menu and the player are always on the left half of the screen. Unfortunately, not even the opacity of these menus can be adjusted, which means we can see that something is changing behind the menu, but we don't really know what it is.

This can be fixed easily I have four suggestions:

1. Allow the player to move the camera from the right of the character to the left of the character (similar to how you can in Infamous and Uncharted). This way we can move the camera to the left side if we want to see our character while browsing the items menu.

2. Switch the Magic menu and the Items menu so that the magic menu is on the left and the items menu is on the right. The primary menu selection screen (Skills, Map, Magic, Items) wouldn't need to be changed because the magic menu comes out of the direction the magic arrow is pointing - the way it should be in my opinion). This method is my favourite because it's very simple to do and doesn't involve messing with the camera angles or anything. Just a simple switch in the menus and it's fixed. You can't see spells being equipped on your player in real-time anyway.

3. Include a character model like in Oblivion or give us the option to reduce the translucency of the menu so we can see the character behind it. (my least favourite idea because we would have to keep changing the opacity).

4. Allow the camera to break free an move in front of the character when the items menu is opened up (or, in reality, to the left of the PC since the menu is on the left). (Thanks to Anrii)

I don't know if this is possible to include via patch, but I really hope so because I know for a fact that the looks of items have a greater influence than the stats (to a certain extent) and I've often worn inferior armor/robes in Oblivion just because they looked better. It's an important thing.
If you like any of them please reply or give me feedback on the threads themselves! (Taken directly from my sig)

All of them seem like useful, practical changes that I'm sure are being modded into the PC version as we speak.
