Breton Resistance???

Post by Lord Elvewyn »

As far as I was aware Bretons got 25% magic resistance so I was very surprised to read on the load\tip screen that they get 50%. Has Bethesda forgotten they nerfed their resistance?

That 50% is a 60-second Power which you can cast only once per day.

They definitely nerfed it.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Bretons were overpowered anyway, so I can live with the reduction. Now Altmer are the overpowered kids on the block.

I'd hardly say that. The Bretons aren't nerfed as it is now, IMHO. And the others are not either. If anything, things are more even now. Also, Bretons are neither Man nor Mer.

Meh...their blood has had far more human DNA than elf over the past couple millenia..

And I feel the Nords and Imperials got nerfed compared to what the other races got. I like the resist frost for the Nords, but their Battlecry power is absurdly useless in 95% of the gameplay. The Imperials' Voice of the Emperor power is equally ridiculous, although their Luck has a basic use.

25% Res agains spells. I'm hoping we're only talking about negative spells, right? I mean, I don't want my healing spells to be less effective!

Completely debatable of who the Manmer are... reproducing with

Imperials imo got a buff, before all their +skills were based around roleplaying, this time they actually got combat skills

I'm more worried about the powers than the stat/skill boosts. You can fix the skills however you like, but your racial powers are permanent.

The power on Imperials were never very powerful and still arent

at best its a adept level illusion spell...

Redguards (imo) on the other hand had their power destroyed
While Orcs had their insanely overbuffed (again imo)

Edit - Does this game even have Charm spells?

It does. I've found a few low level Charm Spell Tombs at the College of Winterhold on the Illusion Magic master.

Then is this list incomplete?

Starting to actually hope there's still nighteye and feather... But that would be too good.

Yeah, the Wiki is nowhere near complete, I wouldn't rely too heavily on it just at this time. Still lots to do, feel free to help out if you find something missing.

Really, even racial bonuses aren't that important. Only the racial abilities have a noticeable effect on the game unless you go out of your way to keep using Powers, and even then it's normally fairly minor. Altmer have got it good though, perhaps reflective of the state of Tamriel as a whole :P.

It'll be a bit difficult to help, as I'm not yet playing the game ( :( ) and won't be for at least another 18 days, that is 'till I go back home. Then I may have the game and may not (for lots of reasons I decided to cancel my pre-order). So I suppose lots of information will be added in three weeks time. After that, I'll gladly help out as I can.

I definitely feel like the Bretons got nerfed. But I'd be more or less adamant on that opinion pending how Resistance to Magicka actually works in Skyrim.
They seem, to me, simply the antithesis of the Altmer (where their Power lets them keep casting, the Breton's Power lets them absorb 50% of that casting for their gain). Sure burns that it's only good against spellcasters, though... I'd much prefer the good ol' AR boost instead.

Well Bretons have always been the defensive of the two casters, while Altmer have been offensive. In Oblivion for example, Altmer got a +10 bonus to Destruction, while Bretons got none. Altmer bonuses have always been better, but offset by weaknesses, a real offensive race in that respect. While Bretons have had their Shield Power and Resistance to Magicka, and have lacked weaknesses.
