Warning: Npc's can rob your house
Was on the Skyrim sub reddit and a user had returned to his house to find a guard there. The guard had told him that there was a robbery and some of his items were gone. After checking one of his containers, he found that items had been removed. Another mentioned that he saw a begger leaving his house and when he killed him, found some of his items in the npc's possession. No news on how this can be prevented. So be warned, keep valuables on person.

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
I wonder if leaving Lydia at home would prevent this...as far as my game is concerned, she's pretty badass. But that means I have to find a new buddy to help me kill stuff. I like Lydia D:

D: Don't say things like that! I have dragonbones at home! And what if the thieves weren't nice to my poor Lydia!
On second thought, I hope they aren't. Then I can come home to lootable thief corpses and a somewhat irritable Lydia, my dragonbones safe and sound.

No idea, if someone breaks in.they most likely defend your house unless they leave or asleep i guess. Maybe it only happens in low rank cities.

I gotta say, if it lead to a quest where I get to murder him and take my stuff back I'm not against getting robbed. Talk about motivation.

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
Just speculation here, but what if there's some sort of in-game karma going on here? Perhaps, when you steal from someone, you leave yourself open to robbery in return?

Ah good idea ... I find myself not having very much gold because it's hard not to buy things, and everything is so expensive, The most gold I ever had was about .... 11,000 Gold. Now I have around 4,500.Ezkaton wrote:I have A banking system where I put some of my gold in a end table next to my bed but my wife and Calder, my house Carl are both there protecting it do I hope no one robs me!!

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
The most I've had I think is 38,000. And I know it's very hard not to buy things that's why I came up with my system. Everytime I stop at my house I drop half or less of the gold in my inventory. And my wife has started a store which brings income into my house. So I'm pretty set.mcjordalini wrote:Ah good idea ... Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
that is so cool! it's not like I'm hoping it happens to me, it's just that I've always thought it was supposed to happen, it wasn't right that we can rob anyone blind and no NPC ever comes to our houses! just hope there's a way to avoid this, like hiring guards, or putting extra locks and stuff.

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
Anyone know if you can lock chests/doors, etc? I doubt it, but I know Beth teried to get a lock spell going for Oblivion, and I haven't had much time to stumble upon one in Skyrim. There must be some way to protect your gear!

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
Hell, even Morrowind had a lock spell (albeit a useless one, aside from a small tactical advantage in combat), I always ran around balmora locking random crates and barrels when I was bored. If they included NPC crime in skyrim and the possibility of your house getting burgled, they can at least include some way of protecting your stuff.
I always found it silly that you need a key to get into your house the first time, but once you've opened it you can just chuck the key. I've always wanted to see a feature where holding the open button on doors with a key reference, and you having the matching key on you, would re-lock a door, even if only on player houses. The first rule of not having your TV stolen (and of course by TV I mean every tankard, broomstick and fork in Tamriel) is to lock the bloody house.

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
My point is that the Oblivion Lock spell did not work, and they had to scrap it because it did not work. I have noticed a Safe in the Bedroom of Proudspire. Perhaps that is a totally safe location?
Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
Yesterday, Lydia and I returned to Breezehome after clearing out some dungeons, and what do we find as soon as we walked in the door? One of the beggars was walking around Breezehome like he owned the place....

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
As long as you killed him, raised his corpse, and killed him again, it ought to be alright.Yesterday, Lydia and I returned to Breezehome after clearing out some dungeons, and what do we find as soon as we walked in the door? One of the beggars was walking around Breezehome like he owned the place....
That is pretty scary though... Has it been documented that they actually steal (and hawk your stuff, otherwise what good is it to them?) or do they simply seem to squat/ perhaps raid the pantries?
To be clear, to those who leave Lydia "at home", if you buy a house and 'part ways' with her, she returns to your house, and not Dragon's Reach?

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
Has anyone determined if this is a karma thing, where if you rob others, you'll be robbed in return? Or is it just something that happens, no matter how pure and law-abiding you are?

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
I did check my storage and confirmed that nothing was missing.
I assume he slept in my bed, so I have had Lydia burn all my sheets and delouse my pillow.
I have not yet checked if he touched my porridge...

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
I have heard rumors that house carls outright prevent robbery. However, if you have a *spouse* in residence, the game rolls out the combat. . . and your spouse could die if they aren't a buff warrior type.
