Games used to be built on the PC, and then ported to consoles. Lots of game companies now do it the other way around. Just like with Skyrim, there are a quite a few mouse bugs, there are key hints on everything (while it's obvious to left click), a lot of graphics options just don't exist anymore, we need to hold a button to drag someone (rather than a seperate button), the maximum mouse sensitivity is way too low, ...
Not that I say console is bad, it's just that I think the PC has more freedom to it, and it feels like some of that freedom has been taken away to make the game compatible to the casual console gamer.
I'm aware that the console market is more profitable, so from a business perspective they act very correct. I've always praised Bethesda for maintaining the 'true core' of gaming. But now it looks like the PC version hasn't even been thoroughly tested. It just looks like they checked that it would boot on PC and they're done with it. I find that thought saddening.
Am I alone with this opinion? Is PC gaming really dying?

It's not at all dying. There are still huge benefits to being a PC gamer, and companies continue to target it. However, I do think that the quality of games built for PC has been going down, so in a way, you're right.CX gamer wrote:Games used to be built on the PC, and then ported to consoles. However, you can't deny, there are also benefits to console gaming. While keyboards allow for an infinitival amount of shortcuts, a controller is better for a game. Console companies control huge amounts of money, and use these to create some fabulous games.
In the end, I think that the PC market will prevail, but the console will continue to be the dominant player. It's sad, but it's true.

Re: The main platform of the future of Bethesda games
The controls for Skyrim clearly revolve around the use of a console controller. And yeah, I'm not seeing any major differences between PC and console graphics. But remember, we can't mod on consoles(as of yet)! Though Bethesda really wanted us to be able to.
PC gaming won't die until consoles are hardware-upgradable. And even then, keyboard+mouse enthusiasts will claim PCs are superior.

Re: The main platform of the future of Bethesda games
Personally, I see things moving in the opposite direction. With consoles now being web-enabled, they're really just a lobotomized form of PC at this point. As console capabilities improve, and their functionality increases, they will come to resemble PCs more and more. Honestly, at this point, it's almost becoming silly to buy into a console system, rather than invest in another PC. I think that's where consoles are headed: they'll become gaming/entertainment optimized PCs, seen as a household's second PC, freeing the "main" PC for the serious real-world business of paying bills and surfing [&@%!].
As for how Skyrim was developed and how it turned out, it's pretty much impossible to release any game that satisfies everyone in all respects. I just hope Bethesda polished Skyrim enough so that game breakers like an ABomb bug have been eliminated.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.
I don't think consoles will develop towards PC's, but rather just contain a hub that enables the playing of media.
Interesting view point. I believe that the reason the money is with the consoles, is because there is far less piracy on them. If console continue to develop, as you say, they will become more and more like pc's. Until the point they're able to run any program you want, which enables torrenting and cracking from the comfort of ones couch. At that point, the video game industry will blatantly die.Evil-i wrote:Personally, I see things moving in the opposite direction. The way i see it they are making it good for the consoles, where mods cant fix the bad problems, and then are sorta relying on the mods for the pc copy. I like this move.CX gamer wrote:Games used to be built on the PC, and then ported to consoles. Lots of game companies now do it the other way around. The top amount of steam users online at the same time was 4.6 million and still increases every few months or so. I wouldn't say PC gaming is dying.
I can't stick an i6 quadcore processor into an xbox, so I'll stick with PC gaming.
