followers immortal?

Post by coduss »

do the followers in skyrim die? or is it like new vegas where they just pass otu? i have found people online saying both, and one was on the elder scrolls wiki, but i don't know which one to believe, i like having followers, but (and i admit that this is going to sound really nerdy) i get attached to them sometimes, unless they are completely annoying idiots like the adoring fan, and with him as the exception i dont like my followers dying, so can someone please help me figure this out? if they die i most likely will not get them to follow me, but the way i play i need all the help i can get at low levels, so i really need to know if they die or not.

please help me!

I believe Faendal is immortal, but Lydia is mortal. So it looks like some are immortal but not all.

The guy from the companions is immortal (forgot his name). I took him with me to fight a giant. I had to run away the whole fight. But he charged in. But the giant hit him once and sent him flying off screen. I was sure he was dead. But next time I fast traveled he caught up with me.

The strategy guide says that followers are not immortal, and doesn't list any exceptions. So I would venture to guess that they can all die, but they might just have a decent amount of health.

Actually, in my experience, followers are immortal. I find that when one loses all of his health, he falls to his knees and stays there for a few seconds before getting back up. Nothing can kill them, but the player. Trust me, I would have a few dead followers if they weren't immortal.

The guide actually says it in a coloured box and I didn't even see it and I have killed my followers a few time by accident. I just make sure to stay away from them if they have collapsed while I'm swinging a weapon around.
A hero can be anyone, even a man doing some as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a young boy's shoulders to let him know the world hadn't ended.

This is how it has been in my experience. However, if you damage them a little by accident, and an enemy finishes them off, they die.

Ah, you guys are right. I misread the guide:
When a Follower's Health is exhausted, they will collapse. Heal them, or finish the combat and wait for their health to regenerate, and they will recover, none the worse for the wear. CAUTION: Be careful, though--if you inflict lethal damage on a Follower, either directly (say, by hitting them with an errant attack) or indirectly (from the blast of a fireball), they will die. Permanently.
