What difficulty do you play in and why?
I play expert because I know at high levels I'm going to be over-powered anyways. Might as well make the revenge sweeter by making the enemies more of a problem in the earlier levels.
So far it has been pretty easy except for fighting that one giant spider in Bleak Flats Cave at level 1. That was a pain in the abdomen.

That one spider, I just used War Cry and hit it in the arachnid arse till it curled up and died.
Now, Dragons, Sabretooths, Ice Wolves and Trolls? Those are entertaining.

I am playing on adept, and I might actually have to turn it down. I am level 10 and I am being owned by the likes of bandit thugs and ice wolves. So far I really, really can't stand the forced leveling system.

Re: What difficulty do you play in and why?
The game started me on Adept (I imagine that's Normal?) and I thought I was doing alright with my melee character [Smithing Spoilers?] untill [light Quest Spoilers?] He kicked my ass bad.
I'm guessing Skyrim has kind of a similar enemy-ranking system that like Dragon Age does; 'Boss' enemies' levels are scaled up a bit. Bethy might need to adjust the severity of the jumps if the phenomenon is wide spread. Because, yeah, I went from wiping the floor with every one I cam across, until that. Even still, though, with ridiculously careful pulling with a bow and potion-nomage, I -almost- killed him. It was probably within my capability, but, I got bored and went mage instead, heh.

War cry is a Nord power, not a shout. I haven't even touched my difficulty.

I'm going to challenge myself right from the start, and put the difficulty on total carnage, AKA [master level] and see if i can make it through the game.
should be interesting.

Just Adept. It's enough of a challenge as far as I'm concerned -- I'm level 18 and I have to pull EVERYTHING out of the closet to kill a Dragon Priest, which seems fair to me.

Are you kidding me? I guess that rues out me beating the Bleak Flats Cave quest anytime soon - I'm only level 2. (Destruction is a really slow level-up).
Tell me, how much harder is the Dragon Priest than the Wounded Frostbite Spider boss?

Re: What difficulty do you play in and why?
Playing on Normal difficulty. Very rarely in a game do I ever touch the difficulty slider. I figure normal, or I guess Adept, is fair for a first playthrough, and so far it is. I haven't died unfairly or too much as far as I am concerned. It's a good system. If I get to a point where I am outmatched, I figure its just that; I'm outmatched. I don't assume the game is too hard and turn it down, I leave the area with the intent to return when I am stronger.

Think of it this way: Wounded Frostbite Spider is to Dragon Priest as Mudcrab is to Chuck Norris.Pandamatak wrote:Narzul wrote:Just Adept. If you start the Bleak Falls Barrow quest at a low enough level (I went in at Level 5), it spawns a Restless Draugr instead of a Dragon Priest.Pandamatak wrote: Tell me, how much harder is the Dragon Priest than the Wounded Frostbite Spider boss?
Trust me, Dragon Priests are hard, I found one at a random Word Wall, tried fighting him, but my epic sword barely did damage on him, so I pussied out and ran like a little [&@%!].
Personally, I play on Expert, but scale it down to Novice to fight Frost Trolls and Falmer and Dragons. Those [&@%!] don't die.

Re: What difficulty do you play in and why?
I'm only level 3 and have been roaming aimlessly for a few hours. So far I've been able to handle 3-to-1 odds against bandits without touching the difficulty, but I've only survived one out of six battles with a Spriggan. So I'm guessing from the start there are some enemies that are just tougher than others.

Re: What difficulty do you play in and why?
I left it at Adept, I'm almost level 9 and I feel I die the right amount of times. Bandits, Wolves, Draugr don't stand a chance. Bears and Sabres generally kill me. Boss fights can be exceptionally hard or very easy, depending on whether the opponent is smart enough to ignore my conjuring and chase me down. In the College quest line
I conjured up a flame atronach and attacked with sparks (my usual tactics), and he ignored my atronach and chased after me, and my Sparks wasn't doing any damage so I basically had to run around the table and keep him on the other side while my atronach slowly drained his health. Took all my health potions and an extra storm atronach scroll I had picked up.

Adept at this point. I want to find out what works, so I cannot use easier settings. I need more experience to change to tougher settings.

Re: What difficulty do you play in and why?
I start out at novice, and then I'll turn it up as I get experienced.
Which will be soon, as long as I can avoid all those damn giants.

Because there's no fun to be found in being normal.
Re: What difficulty do you play in and why?
Expert, because it's the first time playing through it. No I don't take the highest difficulty just yet. :p

adept at the moment, was thinking of going to expert but like many others posting here, me and my servant and another npc are getting our rear ends handed to us by one boss at the moment, so i think i'll wait to see what's what..

Re: What difficulty do you play in and why?
I'm leaving it at Adept. I feel it makes the game fair and realistic. I mean, a Bandit SHOULD be able to kill you. You shouldn't be able to walk through someone with a steel warhammer. But I've killed two dragons without touching the slider, and I've been killed by giant spiders and bandits. I've had Lydia with me most of the time, she is so beastly, I aid her with most my potions and healing spells, wish I could give her oakflesh.
We did get our @$#% slapped by a mammoth, but the two of us brought down a frost dragon. I do give her the best potions and equipment, refine them and everything. Companions really help deal with the challenge, and can alert you to approaching enemies.

Adept. I feel if something is too hard at this difficulty I need to go and get stronger. Master and Expert just feel silly to me, the enemies don't have new tactics or more powers they simply absorb damage.

Re: What difficulty do you play in and why?
Switched to master a few days ago, enjoying it a lot because it requires a lot of stuff besides the usual just sit there and take hits, only complaint i have for master is that when your tired its hard to play on it because you cant really focus well
