Re: The moment of embarrasment
When I had to resort to having my Frost Atronach block the narrow doorways during the last College of Winterhold quest just so I could stay alive while I flung Chain Lightning at my enemies through the narrow gap between my Atronach and the walls. [&@%!] Draugr Deathlords.

I did that for a normal troll just prior, but he went down really easy, then when I went to High Hrothgar and thought he'd be only slightly harder...I was dead...wrong....I ended up using a combination of sprinting away and twin flares to beat him.TheNightFather wrote:

Heh... I did not know I had a healing spell until just read this thread.... I feel like an idiot
Additionally, attacking a giant at level 2... That went swimmingly....

Deciding to pickpocket everything off of everyone. By the time I hit Dragonsreach, I was level 15, had a pickpocketing skill of 75, while my combat skills were all around 20ish. Yeah, that giant spider in the barrows kinda kicked my rear. This was made only worse when I get told to go down and deal with a dragon by the watchtower, with one of the castle folk to aid me... and I realized I'd pilfered her sword earlier >.<

I did all of these but, if your safe, the river can be very fun if you jump on the rocks before the waterfall._yodah_ wrote:Tried climbing the Throat of the World without using the seven thousand steps (I couldn't find them).

I played the game for 3 hours before I realized that I had a healing spell. That could've helped in many situations.

Re: The moment of embarrasment
Making pickpocket and lockpick be skills that level you was a terrible idea, now I am going to avoid those things because it levels me too fast. Honestly I find this leveling system awful.TheNightFather wrote:You make a mistake, you pay for itborn2beagator wrote:I think I need to start over. Re: The moment of embarrasment
It's no different apart from the fact that there's no more min-maxing... maybe you like min-maxing, I don't know. But I think using a skill over and over and over until you're great at it and not paying attention to your major skills because you want to stay low so the game is easy isn't a play style, it's an exploit.

The issue is that it makes the enemies more powerful, but doesn't really help you against monsters.

Re: The moment of embarrasment
There's not actually forced leveling - you stay at the same level until you choose to level up, even if you've filled up the bar. And the mobs you encounter that are high leveled? Most would be anyway due to the new leveling system, not due to your own level. Gotta find the lower level areas instead.

You are still building to the next level when the bar is full, so there really is no control over your leveling.alphaman wrote:There's not actually forced leveling - you stay at the same level until you choose to level up, even if you've filled up the bar. My first death was 10 minutes into wandering around, killed by a Spriggan.
Hubby thought he would try talking to a giant, and was promptly turned into a croquet ball, 300 feet in the air..

Re: The moment of embarrasment
It took me a while to find out how to manipulate objects,
When I first tried manipulating an object in the tutorial using LB and it didn't work, I tried all the other buttons and I was like, "Oh...no! No way they got rid of manipulation! How the hell am I gonna put books on shelves NOW?!" After a while I started to accept that there was no manipulation and decided to wait until I got telekinesis. I even walked all the way back to Whiterun from the watch tower while over-encumbered because I didn't want to drop the dragon bones and scales. So, last night I was talking to a friend and I was saying how I couldn't believe there was no manipulation and he was like, "Yeah there is, you just gotta hold A" and I was like, "Whaaaaaaat?!" and sure enough, it worked.
I kept trying to kill the giants at Bleakwind Basin.
First, I tried shooting them with a bow from right across the river. Apparently the giants and the mammoths are best buds because the mammoth starts bashing me in the back and the giant runs up and stomps me and I die.
The seconds time I try sniping them from the hill near Whiterun, I wasn't sure if I was hitting them or not because theyw ere looking around and my sneak went up. Eventually they detect me and start running my way. Remembering how easily they killed me last time, I decided to sprint back to Whiterun and let the guards handle it, or at least try to. Lydia decides to stay and keep shooting her bow at the giant, so the giant runs up and smashes her with his club sending her flying WAAAY up into the sky like a rocket. I see this and I'm like, "OH. MY. GOD." I drink some stamina potions and continue sprinting towards Whiterun. I was almost to the wall when thr giant catches up and smashes ME with his club and I go SOOO far up into the sky, it was amazing.

Doing the quest The Jagged Crown for the stprmcloaks, getting to a coded door with the inner, middle, and outer rings, trying for an hour and a half, not realizing the code is on the bottom of the claw key and that i wasted my time. But i got the code by luck in 90 minutes.

Re: The moment of embarrasment
Right, but if you don't choose "level up" it won't affect any dungeon/mob/etc things that are affected by level. So while you still build, you don't have to worry about overleveling, since your stats/perks won't change till you tell them to.born2beagator wrote:You are still building to the next level when the bar is full, so there really is no control over your leveling.alphaman wrote:There's not actually forced leveling - you stay at the same level until you choose to level up, even if you've filled up the bar. Re: The moment of embarrasment
I was heading up the 7,000 steps with Lydia, when I was attacked by an Ice Wolf. I maneuvered the beast so it's furry rump is facing the cliff, and about a kilometre of open air before the ground. "FUS RO DAH!!!" Just as planned, the shaggy wolf yelped, and went careening over the cliff. Along with my trusted Hauscarl, who deigned to be juuust a little bit in the way. I watched her fall for a good ten seconds, before watching the speck that was her dashed in the pines of Falkreath Hold. Sigh. Reload.

I dallied too long in the courtyard trying to decide who to enter the keep with in the prologue, and missed Alduin landing behind me.

Being used to the Oblivion keyboard, I tried to manipulate a book on a shelf, and instead succeeded in Unrelenting Force-ing the books all over the room and scaring myself to death.
