Re: College of Winterhold
Where did you get the Flame Atronach? I've used scrolls for higher level ones (frost and storm), and they pwn.
Anybody else disappointed? I mean, it was difficult as [&@%!], and admittedly it was very, VERY late for me, but it just seemed like "Oh, hai there. Do this. Do that. Kill him. Now you're Arch Mage." The fights were epic (skeletal DRAGON?!), but the story was fairly meh. Though, it did feel a lot more Magey than Oblivion. You actually felt like you were being schooled - which was pretty cool.

I concur for sure.....I was expecting a big speckle you know cause were messing with the tools of a god...more specifically an Aedra.
I loved the dungeons....those Centurion spheres....man good stuff and heck yeah that Undead/Skeletal Dragon totally shocked me.
I got my Atronach from....oh I forget her name...the woman who initiates us into the guild at the beginning of the quest line.

That Dragon Priest killed me so many times. That shock spell... ridiculous. Awesome rewards though. 300% magicka regeneration.

Re: College of Winterhold
Found a funny glitch too.
That Morokai (I forget his name honestly)
The one who has the Staff of Magnus and the Mask
Well I got his mask after me and my trusty Flame Atronach toasted him.....anyway whenever I put on the mask (the one with 100% magicka regen) my face and body go invisible...so it's neat cause it looks like a ghost is in the Arch-Mage robes except you can still see my hands (flesh)

Re: College of Winterhold
I actually thought the storyline was well thought out and it was fairly challenging. Completed it at lvl 9 died a few times. I can understand The progression and reason for being promoted to archmage but it does feel a bit quick and under deserved. However it's cool as hell that I'm running the college and have my own Mage suite

May I ask how you killed of Morokai, he is strong as hell, toast me every time and even my scrolls don't work on him as he is above lvl 30(maybe even 35). Is there an easy way?

Be stronger. His kind don't stand up very well against Dremora Lords. The hard way, however, is to simply stay out of his sight and keep summoning a Frost Atronach or something similar to wittle away his health until he dies. Takes forever but it works.

Re: College of Winterhold
Morokai was pretty easy but it was a drawn out battle...here's what I did.
1. Used the pillars in the area as cover moving from each one as he moved BUT I stayed near the back where I could summon my Atronach on HIS side of the platform.
2. As said before Atronach summoned on his side and used it to get his attention.
3. Mix of Firebolt spell (ranged) and Staff of Jorsomething (it does a ranged lightning attack) and of course my Atronach who was my close quarters fighter Atronach was invaluable.
10-15 min he was slowly killed and he never once shot a spell at me as I timed my summoning so he was always busy.

Range him and use the entry door to block and heal. Apparently as an apparition he can't open or fly through the door. It's a cheap tactic but hey I'm using solid material to my advantage right?Trelares wrote:May I ask how you killed of Morokai, he is strong as hell, toast me every time and even my scrolls don't work on him as he is above lvl 30(maybe even 35). I kinda feel like I cheated against Morokai. After battling for a little while, he just stopped moving. I think my familiar must have gotten him trapped in a corner. Anyway even after my familiar died, he wouldn't move. So I just slowly zapped him to death.
Also does anyone know if the Arch-Mages quaters is a safe place to store your stuff? Or will it vanish?

I went up to the platform where one of the mages were doing his thing and hid behind some pillars whenever we would try to zap me. Me and my fire atronach threw firery death at him, until his health was low enough to the point when I went in for the kill with my trusty "PhrostByte" (falmer sword with a frost enchantment)

Re: College of Winterhold
It kind of reminds me of the debate between GTA: San Andreas, and GTA IV. Skyrim being GTA IV. They gave us realism at the expense of what the last game would have us expect. We lost a lot of playing time, and a sprawling quest line, but on the other hand, this is the most realistic quest line with more attention to detail than we saw the last time around. No longer will you get warriors with longswords and heavy armor in the magic questline, because the perks won't benefit a warrior. No, if you wind up joining it will genuinely be for magic purposes. Furthermore, you get the feeling everyone is trying to benefit themselves through study. The librarian is genuinely interested in furthering his collection for the sake of all magic users in Skyrim. He gets an extra layer of depth for having his own philosophy, and conversations no longer seem so contrived. Compare the Mages Guild, where mages were inexplicably wealthy when all they did was talk about mudcrabs and drink wine to Onmund in Skyrim, who very clearly is struggling to pay for his own education. For all the questions that would go unanswered in Oblivion, they're either outright stated or implied. Here's some things I've put together.
*spoilers*
-Savos Aren was either promoted above his level of competence, or put in to a subtle state of shock after the disaster at the Labyrinthian. This would explain his reluctance to act on anything, a defense mechanism, pulling himself in to his shell.
-Mirabelle Ervine was initially portrayed as an intimidating Savos loyalist, more or less. For all the flak she gives the player, she is ultimately redeemed when she gives guidance and attempts to save the college, giving up her life in the process. At this point I believe it's more or less revealed that her brutal personality was a consequence of her environment. There's hardly enough glue to hold the college together, and her loyalty towards Savos was kind of just saying, the college is weakened but the way we've always gotten through it is by listening to the arch mage. It's because of sacrifices like hers that a dwindling institution like the College can stay afloat.
-J'zargo was a lot more memorable than anyone at the Oblivion mages guild. Except the guys in Leyawiin, maybe.
Finally, I loved the ability to take on minor tasks for all the members of the college. It's the one plausible explanation for your quick rise through the ranks. If you're treating everyone kindly, where could you go wrong? It also gives the feeling that you're almost working a 9-5 job rather than completing quests that will change the world forever. Thats how it should be most of the time. That should be the future of guild questlines.
Thank you for reading!

You used lightning magic? That's how I beat him. [At level 13 or so]CriminalScum wrote:I kinda feel like I cheated against Morokai. After battling for a little while, he just stopped moving. I figured the reason he stopped moving was because he had no magicka.
I locked him into stagger with dual cast lightning bolt, and by the time I ran out of magicka he was just moving back and forth on the stairs looking at me. :L
I had to reload a couple of times, though, because if he hits you first he basically does this same thing to you. :\
In the end it took me 8 straight minutes of zapping him.

Yep. My familiar wedged him in a corner and I started dual lighting bolt(ing?) him. Then once I realised head had stopped moving I switched to sparks and got all sith lord on him.The Dog Whisperer wrote:You used lightning magic? That's how I beat him. But the thing is, the prejudice is what brings people to the College, because nowhere else in the province is truly safe for Mages.
I would say the Great Collapse and its ramifications are most probably the predominant factor in the dwindling populace of the region and Collage.

How they were treated as a result of the Great Collapse. Most of the populace blames the Collage for the collapse. They were chased out as a result of this, not because they were Mages.

Yes, the town, and skyrim in genral frowns apoun magic ( a lot of the world dose) as such magic is declining.
Go talk to the pepole and they will tell you that pepole left becuse of how they where treated, it may be they are treated that way becuse of the collpas, but the fact is, most left becuse they dont not like how they where treated, go ask each person in the collge IIRC its the female high elf
