Anyone get attacked by hired thugs yet?
They seem to be something like the talon group or whatever in fallout 3. I was in winterhold, I joined the university, and a group attacked me when I walked out of shop in town. The guards did nothing. They ran whenever the group got close, did not even unsheath their weapons, and just let them swing away at me, even when I had no weapons drawn.
Is this intentional or is this a bug? Pretty stupid if you ask me.

Re: Anyone get attacked by hired thugs yet?
Have you picked up a note off the body of one? I was attacked by three at Riverwood. I did and from memory saw that Oregun had it in for me. I figured it was triggered because I'd stolen something from somewhere. First thug attacked me when I walked near the Smithy, second was waiting in the general store, third was in the general store on a different visit. Not sure if there's more waiting or I got them all - I've not been back for a while.

I remember one saying "This'll teach you not to steal again."
So I guess thieves get hitmen on them.

Or given winterhold's people are strongly against the College, you could've just [&@%!] off the locals earlier and your ascension to mage was the last straw...unlikely, but it fits

I think this kind of thing really adds colour to the game, and therefore I'm a little disappointed that I've only ever had one group of thugs after me, despite the frequency with which things seem to...stick to my fingers.

Re: Anyone get attacked by hired thugs yet?
On my new character I was accosted by such a group of thugs (3 of them) in Riverwood. I was still at that level 1 - level 5 area, just learning to use my Khajiit unarmed mage, and it was quite a fight (had to reload a few times). I believe Hod, Gerdur (Ralof's sister)'s husband, was the name on the contract. And they invited me into their home! He must have (understandably) though I outstayed my welcome and took a bit more than my share

I've actually been attacked by Hired Thugs 2/3 times...One of the times it was from Dorothe, another time I guess someone found out I broke into their house, I think someone else got mad at me for killing their sister...

Re: Anyone get attacked by hired thugs yet?
I was attacked by a DB Khajit assassin today. He came out of nowhere in sneak mode with his dagger out then he tried to hit me once but I managed to dodged his blow.He then started to roll towards the Sea of Ghosts and inevitably took a bath.
The funny part was that I think he was wearing lead boots because he had zero buoyancy and he was still rolling on the sea floor by the time I got next to him.
I'm guessing that's the way Dark Brotherhood assassins roll.Like a boss(or a sub, whichever way you want to put it)!
I've actually experienced similar behaviour but with other npcs/creatures,namely,a fox that ran away from me and was walking on the sea floor and a Northwatch Guard that was dancing techno 1 meter under water.
Pfff Skyrim is becoming more freaky for me with every patch.

Re: Anyone get attacked by hired thugs yet?
I'm never out on the road too long without an assassin attacking me, or running into a skooma dealer. I refuse to fast travel (unless I really really have to), and so I get lots of encounters like that. That plus the Thalmor which, to me, are like better-equipped hired-thugs.

Re: Anyone get attacked by hired thugs yet?
In about 300 hours of gameplay, I've been attacked by "hired thugs" only once, eventhough I've never robbed anyone. Strangely, the contract note was signed by a generic "Nord", not a named NPC. Seems like it was an encounter the game randomly generated just for the hell of it.
However, there are more than enough individuals and groups trying to kill me. I can hardly travel more than a few yards without being accosted by angry Necromancers under contractual obligations, DB assassins or Thalmoric hit squads. And then there are the random roadside Bandits, the anti-social pairs of dueling Mages, Foresworn Looters that just show up out of nowhere, and all those feisty unnamed non-Nordic NPCs who declare "Skyrim is for the Nords!" and then attack for no good reason.
Skyrim is a dangerous place to go butterfly hunting.

I've had a couple of groups of hired thugs attack me. What's mildly amusing is when you give the note back to the person who sent the thugs after you.

Re: Anyone get attacked by hired thugs yet?
Oh baby, I've gotten all sorts of hitmen after me! Thalmor, thugs, wicked mages, you name it. I find humor in it, as I'm the Dragonborn do you really think you'll be able to kill me? My most favorite story though is when my mage had Sven as a follower and she robbed a house during their travels...and he hired thugs to teach her a lesson. That was a bit like WHOA at first but it was a memorable gaming experience.
Speaking of Maven Black Briar, I got a good chuckle when she said that if someone really [&@%!] her off she would have the Dark Brotherhood take care of it and then proceeded to say something insanely rude to me. Um, I'm the leader of the DB...I WISH I could end her miserable existence. Sigh. One can dream, no?

Re: Anyone get attacked by hired thugs yet?
I've been attacked by thugs in the same spot each of my last three campaigns. Each time I've killed Anise, taken her shack, and stolen all of her goodies Moira has sent some thugs after me. They are always waiting for me the first time I sleep there and it is quite a fight if you are fresh out of Helgen.

Im surprised to see how many of you haven't run into these. I think in every new playthrough i've started they have come for me. They aren't a problem if you've leveled a bit, but if youre pretty fresh 3 guys in steel armor can be tough to fight
