Train wreck of a Midnight Release

Post by Ataxio »

Simply put, my experience so far as been just epic.

I arrive at the midnight release, 3 hours early. And endure the cold like everybody else. Got my copy and sped home, super excited.

End up getting a defective disc, which refuses to be read in multiple PCs.....

So i call up Gamestop, they close in 20 min. It takes me 20 min to get there from my town. They tell me they will wait and hold the store open. I proceeded to put my supercharger to work and got there 2 min till 1.

Walk in the door, and I plop down the disc. They all look at me and groan... "Oh man, you wanted the PC version? I shoulda told you we didn't have any copies left.."
The emotion I felt was a mixture of rage, disbelief and frustration....

So they took my number and told me i'll get a copy as soon as they get more.... Epic letdown :\...

Got home and begun downloading it from steam, which is apparently possible with just the CD key...

I'll just take the bad disc back later & get a new one. It's just annoying I tried to avoid all of this and am currently VERY slowly downloading it.

The disc I got is somewhat discolord in the center, and just takes 2-3 min to read. then It ejects it with no errors.... Tried in 2 dif PCs, and my current rig is def able to read DVDs..

Somehow... I knew this would happen in some way. So I'm taking it all in stride.

I can't think of any ways that could go any more wrong...

I'm halfway done downloading it now, locked in at 1.1mb... Not too bad.

Just really sucks, even MORE waiting! Hoping it runs smoothly after install.

NEVER go to gamestop...same thing happened to me with Rift, I had collectors edition I had to get...about 8 or so copies of the game before I got a working one. Gamestop is terrible about working copies of games, bestbuy doesnt even reserve copies, I have a local video game store I go to but they are bad about not giving out preorder bonuses (I didnt get my cloth map D:, just the terrible paper one, going back tommorrow to fix dat up.)

I lucked out.

Got a nice pre-order copy of Skyrim for the XBOX 360 after fighting my way to the third slot in the line at the midnight release, then played the [&@%!] out of it until 8 in the morning.

I just went passed my local EB Games, and they were not sold out at all. Well at least, they had a lot of XBOX and PS3 copies on display. I would have expected them to be out, Inheritance (the book) was sold out and it's been out for a few more days.

That sucks about your game. I had an equally bad experience too, but not with a bad game disk but with a rigged costume contest. I actually made a complaint about it http://forum.deviantart.com/community/c ... s/1664087/

The long version of the story is 2 people won because 1 bought his votes with a crappy costume and the second person won because he worked for gamestop. The two people who should of won, awesome chainmill guy and myself didn't get anything and we were both upset.

I hope you get your game up and running soon!

I had a fairly negative experience with GameStop as well. I preordered the Collector's Edition the day it was announced. The manager of the store told me that it wasn't in the system yet, but if I put $25 down on it, he'd switch it over as soon as it was.

Five months later, there's a new manager, who just took over. Apparently, I was directly lied to, this had happened before multiple times, and that my best bet for getting a CE is to hope this guy cancels his. I'm...pretty irritated.

I just walked into Best Buy on Friday and bought it, works fine. I always have good luck with electronics and games.
