Well. I think i mentioned this before. I was sitting on the toilet in february when my cousin knocked on the door and said "There making a new Elder Scrolls."

That was the best bathroom break of my entire life.

I remember thinking this day would never come.

The reason I joined these forums was because i google searched if werewolves were confirmed. Bam, now i'm here. Im gonna be very sad to see these pre game forums go. Like really sad. All my posts gone bye bye.

Ill be online until Nov 11, Good luck with Skyrim guys. Happy gamin' ;)

Huh, I played just under 40 minutes. You cannot fathom the level of tease. It's just making my hype worse.

I just had a thought: With the events of Shivering Isles, what are they going to do about Sheogorath? Y'know, since he's kinda....not there.

It's a kind of vinyl. Unfortunately it's going to be impossible to get the sharp folds out, just as with regular paper.
I wasn't really exited about it in the first place as the thing is not very detail-heavy. The google-maps version that uesp is undoubtedly going to set up is going to be a million percent more useful.

Is it the pre-order map?
Because the guy at the local gamestop said it was like burlap.

Yes , its the pre-order one.
The front side is textured and yellow/brown-ish to give you the impression that it is parchment/old paper. The back side is bright white and clearly shows that it is a kind of plastic. There is no way you would think the thing is any kind of woven textile.

I'll be using the map that's no doubt inside the cover of the strategy guide I've pre ordered with the game; that way I'll even have access to maps of all the towns, dungeons, points of interest...

The only problem I forsee is that I'm planning on only using the guide to better understand the system to begin with, maybe allow myself to check the maps occasionally if I get really stuck, but I really want to try this game without too much guidance the first time around so resisting the urge to 'peek' at the walkthrough and quests sections might be quite tricky.

We are close, a new age of Elder Scrolls is upon us. So in homage of its predecessor, I give you a trip down memory lane....

...I give you the Oblivion Countdowns that taunted us for a week before its release...

They have confirmed that the paper map will come with all copies, regardless of pre-order. Pre order games come with both.

Nope. I did not get the paper map. Just the plastic(psuedo-burlap) one.
The DVD case was already pretty tightly crammed as it was. An extra paper one would not have fitted.

I've read repeated statements on the Bethesda main site, and from tweets from Pete Hines explaining the map situation. The very first batch of Skyrim sent out to retailers will include a 'burlap' (sort of paper with a cloth texture) map. This is the premium map and everyone who gets a hard copy of the game on 11/11/11 will receive that map in the box. Any remaining copies that are not sold on the release date will still have the premium map, however once they've sold out that's it.

When the first batch sell out, all further re-ordered batches of Skyrim will come with the more typical paper map of the type that usually ships with Oblivion.

So, in a nutshell - there's no cloth map. The 'premium' map isn't cloth, and the only way to guarantee you get one is to either pre-order the game. Anything less plays with the possibility that your nearest store may run out of copies and need to re-order more stock which will not come with the 'premium' map.

It's going so fast now, but still so slow. THis feels like New Year's Eve. Everyone wishing the best for the next year etc. I see 11.11.11. as year 1 of the fifth Era. Next year will be 2 E5, 'till the next game. :)
Me: "So, how did you get this rich?"

Amen! I played just under an hour, and ever since then I've been thinking about Skyrim non-stop. It's what convinced me to join this forum, after all.
