So me and my friend were getting into an argument about the history of the game of the year award. And while I was searching, I became confused since it seems that a bunch of sites offer their own Goty award, and different Goty awards for different genres.
So is there an 'official' goty award? Only reason I was researching it was I knew Morrowind was a goty, and was wondering what other winners were in previous years.

I guess I should rephrase my question.
Which site did Morrowind win "game of the year" with? Curious since they released a Morrowind GOTY edition.
I'm looking at IGN right now, and they did not vote Morrowind as the GOTY according to wikipedia.
