Nord Warrior Name
I'm trying to find a name for my Nord warrior, something related to the norse mythology.
I liked something related to Niflheim, wich is the lower of the nine worlds in said mythology, the icy-coldy one.
So I thought of something like "Niflhur", "Niflhem" but they don't convince me.
Any suggestions?

Re: Nord Warrior Name
You could use Baldur: A champion of goodness, innocence and forgiveness, he was loved by everybody.
Or some variation of Asgard, the place of nordic gods.
And Nilfheim could be varied to a great extent like Nilf Hardhelm or Nilf Ironhelm etc.

Re: Nord Warrior Name
Well these aren't Norse but they tie into Ice etc.
Izotz = ice (Basque Origin)
Tuhin = Snow (Sanskrit Origin)
These names are Norse:
Haakon = Chosen Son
Haldor = Thor's Rock
Halvor = Rock Guardian
Härlief = Descendant
Einar = Lone Warrior/Battle Leader
Egil = Sword

Fimbulthul ["Mighty-Speaker"]
Slídr ["Dangerous"]
Hríd ["Storm"]
Sylgr ["Slurp"]
Ylgr ["She-wolf"]
Víd ["Wide"]

Re: Nord Warrior Name
Tyr may be suitable. He was the norse god of war.
Fenrir, who was a very poweful wolf, the son of Loki in fact, could be a good name for a more "barbaric" type warrior.
As dubq previously said, Thor is another good one.
Also, if you intended using a little magic as well you could call him Odin.And you could could give him only one eye just like the real( well, you know what I mean) Odin.
The great thing about Norse mythology is the names and there are plenty more.These seemed the most suitable, but if you dont like them I can always post more.
Hope it helps!

I'm naming mine Ysgramor, after the Nord king who defeated the falmer and made Skyrim the home of the Nords.

I have always find it very funny that "Tove the Unrestful" is a man, because it is a woman's name. Isn't Tove a female name in Sweden, Nanza?Argonanza wrote:I present for thee to admire, the lore page on Nord names!
Anyway... Earlier this year we discussed Nord names. So even though this thread is for a specific Nord Warrior name - you should be able to find some inspiration in that thread.
Farbjörn, hahahhaaha. I can't believe that this used to be a common nameGoblin voice wrote:check these out:

It's gender-neutral. But there's very few men named Tove.

Re: Nord Warrior Name
Well, I guess it's only in Denmark it is entirely a female's name. Perhaps in Norway too, but I wouldn't start to wisecrack about that.

Re: Nord Warrior Name
Fimbulvetr, google the meaning (a great winter but there's more info) and see if it can be turned into a character name.

Re: Nord Warrior Name
Alright thank you all for the inputs. I will probably name it Halvor, even if it ain't nothing to do with the original idea. I like the sound of that word, and them meaning is cool.Ysmir wrote: Halvor = Rock Guardian

Re: Nord Warrior Name
Valdemar, It's the name of at least two danish kings (Vlademar the Great & Valdemar Victory(son of the Great))
Gorm (the Old), another king (The first of the current danish line of kings) Pretty awesome name as well.
Herald (Bluetooth) Bluetooth is a danish invention, guess where the name came from...

I believe this would be translated to the swedish vargavinter... (which means a long and very cold winter)Fathis wrote:Fimbulvetr

Re: Nord Warrior Name
Actually you're wrong. Fimbulvetr is icelandic. The direct translation to swedish is Fimbulvintr and for danish and norwegian Fimbulvinter. It is an old norse word used by the vikings describing a harsh winter that is both a sign of the coming of Ragnarok and the prologue of Ragnarok.Goblin voice wrote:I believe this would be translated to the swedish vargavinter... (which means a long and very cold winter)Fathis wrote:Fimbulvetr
So your description like "long winter" is correct, but your translation is wrong.
