Are these two guilds directly linked or are they seperate?
In Oblivion the Mages Guild seemed more like a government controlled/associated guild and more 'tame' to put it.
Whereas the College of Winterhold seems a more 'fierce' looking guild and seperate from the government. This would make sense due to the whole 'Civil War' fiasco, I just want to know your opinions/knowledge, thanks!
Well it's been a long road Cyrodil... I may never see you again :O Skyrim is awaiting me, I might even be there longer than I was at Cyrodil, or even them Shivering Isles I wandered off too... But I know that one day I will be back!
The Mage's guild is an institution chartered by the Empire to regulate the responsible use of magic within the Empire. The College of Winterhold is a private institution based in Winterhold, established to instruct Skyrimmians (totally a word) gifted in magic.
Thanks, I'm guessing there might be a bit more exciting 'magic' then

I've never understood why Necromancy has been a non-joinable guild.

Well you can equip the necromancer gear and if you see any mage they will freak out and refuse to talk to you until you get rid of it, so if you wanted you could equip that go on a killing spree of mages and take over the guild, if you are on PC you could spawn abunch of necromancer NPCs and if you have high infamy (i think, might be bounty) necros and bandits are friendly

Oh my I didn't know this, I guess after a couple days of 'settling in' I shall try this out
