Equipment bug
Hi.
I just downloaded Daggerfall, but I can't make it through the tutorial, because a rat keeps killing me. Yes I know I'm supposed to kill the darn beast, but after dying three times and starting three new characters I've discovered that the only weapon I am allowed to wield is an axe. I try equpping a saber and I get the message that it is equipped however if I ready my weapon I will have h2h and not a weapon. How can this be??

Re: Equipment bug
There are two explanations I can think of. Well really one that could have occurred two ways: your class may not be allowed to wield either the material or type of weapon you are trying to equip (the Saber) because you have a Special Disadvantage of "Forbidden Material" or "Forbidden Weaponry". Which class are you?
This may provide more help.

Re: Equipment bug
Yeah I thought of that myself if it was like Arena, but I figured a saber is a long blade? And therefore I equipped because I chose to be a Rogue

Re: Equipment bug
Yeah, that is odd. Rouge's should be able to wield Sabers. You're playing as an unaltered Rouge? I'm thinking it may be some sort of bug. What material was the Saber?

Re: Equipment bug
I haven't altered a thing. I just followed the steps and added the extra skill and att points where I thought they would fit me best. I can't remember what material the saber was made of, but I get it everytime I start over.
EDIT: I've got an Iron Saber, Iron Claymore and a Silver Staff - no matter which weapon I equip if I ready my weapon I'm still empty handed.
Ps. your link is to the Arena class.

Re: Equipment bug
The only item restriction that the rouge has is that he cannot wear heavy armour or use the tower shield, so he should be able to equip and use any weapon of any material.
Perhaps you could make a short video of you trying to equip and use the saber so that we might get some sort of clue as to what might be wrong. I suppose you use dosbox. If so, just hit Ctrl+Alt+F5 to start recording and then the same combination to stop. The video file can be found in the "capture" folder in your dobox directory. This will be the same as your Daggerfall directory if you used DaggerfallSetup.exe. If you can't be bothered with you-tubing it, just upload the raw file at a file hosting service such as for example http://megaupload.com and post the link in this thread.
Though if you do get it working, I'd advise you to restart and make a custom class and actually do add some item restrictions. For instance, I don't see any point with using more than one type of weapon, so you might add restrictions for all weapon types except the weapon class of your choice. In return, you can give yourself some advantages such as extra hit points per level or something such.

Re: Equipment bug
Thanks for the pick up, fixed the link. From what you're describing, I'm fairly sure that this is a bug and not a game mechanism.
Only one I can find/think of is this:
Only one I can find/think of is this:
Sometimes if you try to draw a weapon before it is equiped, your hand will be taken out and you can't use that weapon untill the game has been saved and reloaded several times (you may have to shut down your computer).

Re: Equipment bug
Aha. I recently started a Bard who has been more succesful about using weapons, however some weapons which I get no message on restrictions about do still not work for me, so I consider recording a video.

Re: Equipment bug
Hello,
Have you overcome this issue? I seem to be under the clutches of the same, unfortunate fate. I exited several times and yet the problem still persists, and I also restarted my laptop. I even went so far as to load a saved game prior to when the error first occured. No luck.
I just started Daggerfall after playing Arena and already I can clearly see why it's regarded as Buggerfall.
I will post a reply here, or edit this post when this issue has been ridden of. I've spent the past few hours, the first few hours in the game, trying to surpass this stubborn bug than actually playing it.
EDIT: I may not have fixed the bug, but I discovered a loophole. And yes, I am happy. Simply change your hands. If you don't know what key to press in order to do this, check your Control menu, but I think that's common sense. It might not work for you, but it worked for me.

Re: Equipment bug
nobody think of the agi?
to make it harder, the game don't change in 0 seconds your weapon, it takes an X time decreased by your agi, so, you will have to run away of a rat until your weapon appear on screen (if you swich hands, the waiting time will reset)
