Hackdirt?

Post by The Silent Argonian »

Ok, so I was doing the Lost Legacy quest and along the way I found a (village?) called Hackdirt. It's directly south of Chorrol a good way. All of the people there hate me because I'm an "outsider" and they mention "the brethern." They don't like me enough to tell me what it's about, even when I got Moslin's dispostion to around 73. After I left the inn two shirtless men ran around the building and tried to kill me (and failed horribly <.<) when I looked at their bodies it said "hackdirt brethern." I waited until dark and found out the cultict maniacs going into a vast cavern. I didn't have any lockpicks left so I had to talk to Shady Sam (a guy hanging around the imperial city walls near the stables for lockpicks, if you didn't know about him) When I went back I waited until dark but they didn't go back into the caverns. I went into the Chapel of the Brethern and some guy said I should leave or I would get hurt, so just to make him mad I sat down on one of the benches. He and some lady attacked me, (also failing). I went into the caverns regardless of the people being there and there were alot of shirtless people yelling "outsider" at me and attacking me, I was so confused D:
I ended up killing everyone in the village >_>
They deserved it. Heethens D:
Anyway, I just found it strange. Anyone know if it's there for a reason?

it's part of a quest. Remember that argonian and her mom who run that business in choral? She makes deliveries to hackdirt every so often. And sooner or later, she goes missing.

Yeah, Hackdirt is an odd little place. Reminds me of the town of Tristram— after the Dark Wanderer had his way with it.

Folks in Hackdirt actually like (or 'liked', in your case) strangers in their town. You see, there's no better way to gather up potential victims for sacrifice than to have a hapless tradesman (or tradeswoman) come through, spend a night at the inn, and then "disappear". Never you mind if their mother starts worrying, spreads word around town that their dear child has gone missing, and some adventurer decides to take up the case and save the day...

PS: Curses! Half-veiled hints smothered in sarcasm doesn't play well when somebody with a quicker trigger-finger gives it up straight away. :x

This explains it a little more indepth: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:A_Sha ... r_Hackdirt

1.) Talk to Dar-Ma in Chorrol.
2.) A few days later, visit her mother, Seed-Neeus, to learn that she has not returned from a trip to Hackdirt.

Dar-Ma doesn't go to Hackdirt, until after you talk to her. If you don't talk to her, she won't go. Which is sort of hard, since she will usually walk up to you, and force a conversation, introduce herself. You will also have a Rumor topic available with the other Citizens of Chorrol, after she goes missing.

They worship "The Deep Ones". If you go into the chapel (by the nine don't go in there while they are praying in there) you will see a book full of daedric script. There is a little paragraph about the religion itself if you want to know more.

I'm pretty impressed with how well you did actually. I usually find that a bunch of Brethren can be pretty tough work.

My Imperial (the guy I "investigated") with is a class that I made called a "heavy archer." It might seem weird to some other players but it works well for me. He is good in stealth but his main skills are heavy armor and marksman and blade and some other things (such as sneak and security.)
I'm not sure if that's what helped but when I made him I was lookign for an interesting class with something different.

Sounds pretty much the same as my first "main" char, but she was a Dunmer.

It's pretty fun to play around with the classes, although not so fun to get them decent. My "main" character is an argonian (as in Morrowind) >_> and I just chose the "Assassin" pre-made class. He seems to be a good warrior too o.o.
I've always wondered if being a "bard" or something would be easy...

In one of my "investigations" at Hackdirt, I took a room at the Inn for the night on the express hope that the Brethren would capture my character and spirit her away into the caverns. I figured there would be no easier way to find Dar-Ma than to actually join her fate.

Didn't work out that way. Subtrefuge is wholly lost on the denizens of Hackdirt, so out came the sword and began the killing, killing, killing!

It would have been much easier on them if they did it my way...

Egads! All you had to do was follow an old person into some hidden trap door into the caverns D: There is one in all of their hoses. But your way is good too, I killed them all also. It's just too hard not to.

I was roleplaying. Realistically, my character would not have blundered about the village asking obvious questions designed to get her into obvious trouble. She's a slippery little Imperial, so much so that she was willing to pretend to be an innocent victim, before revealing herself to be the unholy, bloodthirsty doom of them all.

Going from person to person and saying "Something bad has happened. Have you been doing bad things?" until she meets that one person who will finally say "Oh, yes! And I feel so guilty about it, I'll atone by helping you..." just seems so contrived.

How do you think this same character acquired the third book needed to find the Shrine of Dagon? You think she actually talked to the aspirant of the Mythic Dawn cult? :Twisted Evil:

When the meeting was going on I saw the two guys with torches walking towards me on the path. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do, so I shot one in the face with an arrow D:
Yes, it's fun to act clueless. It's also fun to lead the adoring fan into certain doom <.<

John? Could you please use correct english on here? It is sort of hard to read, and I don't want Arotos to hang himself again when I could have prevented it.

Thank you mightily for another hilarious quote to add to my collection. I believe they call this a 'fishy-stick moment' :D
Witty banter and such.
