Skyrim Footage, not leaked, by Todd Howard

Post by Frogmander »

This material be leaked, eh. You may or may not have seen this footage, it is similar to the demos but has quite a bit more content (40 minutes worth, while the demos only have about 25 minutes worth) plus it has the crowd included so it is funny to hear them be like "MURDER ZE CHILDREEEEEEEEN"

This hasn't been posted already? It was pretty wide-spread.

You sure that's not leaked?

Sometimes these sorts of events are not intended to be filmed. I haven't seen past the first few minutes yet, so it could be really obviously ok - just thinking about the possibility this could be another problematic clip before I disappear for a while to watch.

EDIT: What I mean to say, it looks like amateur footage from someone in the crowd with a concealed video camera. Bethesda could consider these videos an infringement too. Unless they've officially stated otherwise, we have no way of knowing that Bethesda were cool with the event being filmed and passed around.

EDIT (again): Scratch that - it's been there since September 1st. If it was a problem it would have been pulled ages ago.

Firstly: this footage is leaked. Secondly: It's old.

If you watch the first few minutes, Pete explicitly asked people not to film. It is a leak, or at least, it was illegally obtained.

People need to stop throwing around the word "illegal" when they're talking about video/photo leaks and stuff like this. Against the rules? Yes. Illegal and will land you in jail? Definitely not.

Would love to see the specific statute on that, then, and please don't cite movies as a precedent. Video games are a completely different medium.

To clarify, how the footage is obtained (pirated copy of game, etc) is obviously illegal, but I have never heard of someone being in legal hot water over leaked footage or photos of a game. In the case of the above, which is even more muddy, it looks as if it were filmed at a conference, or a public gathering of some sort.. Filming could get you banned from the event, but I highly doubt that the local popo were on standby to slap the cuffs on anyone filming a presentation.

As far as I understand it is illegal to take screenshots and/or film videos of a game prior to its release. It's also illegal to distribute them on the itnernet. It's not illegal to watch them or discuss them. That is my knowledge on the legality of leaked footage.

Fair enough. It's all moot anyway since we are all in different countries and are no doubt going to have different laws in place depending on where we live.

Both of you raise valid points, but at the end of the day, it is illegal, but more than that, it's disrespectful. Pete asked explicitly for people not to film, and he gave reason: Beth don't want crappy film of their game spreading, they want it released in full HD goodness. People should respect that. No poster here has done anything wrong, but there doesn't seem much more point in this discussion.
