I understand. My parents weren't too happy either when I got my hands on GTA 3 at, 12 years old and started murdering prostitutes.

Turning of the blood wouldn't really help all that much would it? Even without the blood your child would still be witnessing the PC bludgeoning to death other people wouldn't they?

I believe ESRB have mentioned that there will be scenes in the game depicting torture, while victims beg for mercy. Blood or no, that's a bit f'd up to show a child. Then again, it does take some raving lunatic to be twisted into a murdering machine by violence/blood in videogames, which I assume your children aren't.
Haha same here except for I was like 10

Sorry, but I'm going to go into a rant here...
[rant]
Spoiler:
Because I have trouble in the head making me not happy with seeing brutality, blood and gore means that I should not play videogames? That I should get serious help? For me I would prefer it if we could just as simply turn down/off the blood. I am a seventeen year old boy that has been playing M rated games since he was 6, and because I don't like to see that stuff, to the point where it makes me cringe... Well I will say this, I have not been sheltered all my life, I have just been traumatized from seeing some of the more disturbing things that my older brothers have played *cough*Doom 3*cough* and what my parents have watched *cough*ER SVU*cough* I would think it bad parenting to expose them to such disgusting things, to show them things like dismemberment, decapitations, etc. when they aren't ready to see it, I can handle it to a point, and as long as the decapitation in the movie preview is the worst that it gets I will be fine with Skyrim. Any scenes with torture involved and I will probably exit the in-game room or turn the sound off if I can't leave, I just have a very strong instinct of empathy for others so watching anything that involves others in realistic pain bothers me deeply. And judging others for what is in there head is wrong, simply because you don't know how things affect other people, to say that because you can't take seeing blood and gore, your a wimp is a very bold statement, and one that I don't agree with.

There is a Daedric quest
Spoiler:
which will have you beating a nonbeliever (for lack of a better word) into submission culminating with you being tasked with taking the poor fellows life. The quest is completely optional and you will probably be able to choose whether or not you want to follow the deadric prince's commands

But you cannot be sure that that will be the only torture quest in the game, so you best cut some heartstrings if you want to see all there is to see in Skyrim.

I'm sure that I will have to cut some of my heart strings, I guess I'll just have to desensitize myself to others pain, but feeling sorry for someone's not a bad thing to be able to do... just when it's to the degree that I do...

But I have the feeling that we are getting off topic...

Don't forget that apart from turning off the sound you can also set all the grfx settings to off/minimum on the PC to break immersion for the nasty scenes.

Videogame characters aren't real anyways...

But you're right, we're getting horribly of topic.

There's no real reason why beth wouldn't let players turn off blood other than the fact that it might by horribly immersion breaking. I know that people have the right to be disgusted by the blood (though I don't get how) but at the end of the day, the game is rated M for a reason. Chances are quite good that the blood setting will be present, but I suspect it's there purely because the blood splatter also takes some amount of computer horse power and Beth wants any computer to be able to run it somehow.

The hard part is that some peoples minds, like my own, can't quite process this and react like they are real. If I could control it I would.

As has been said a million times, it would benefit Bethesda to allow us to turn off blood, thus lowering the system requirements, and it would also benefit those that have trouble handling it, making it easier on people like me's stomach.

I hope we can turn the swords into those toys like that hammer that squeaks, and dragons into stuffed animals, and torture into tickling and pillow fights../end sarcasm

I myself have been close to tears a few times playing an incredibly story driven games. I believe I was actually sobbing a bit in both Infamous 2 and Shadow of the Colossus.

Back on topic
So in conclusion: There's really no reason why they wouldn't include a blood off button

It was a bit of an exaggeration, but still, they should "be taken aside and explained" or "taken to a councilor". But still, you should get my general point there. And overlord, the entire point of my rant was that people who want it off to prevent children from seeing it are pulling the "cover you kids eyes if you see a couple holding hands" or the "cover your kid in pillows and a bullet proof vest to go for a walk"
I agree with your opinion completely. If a kid ends up to be a gangster/ serial killer it's not the games' fault. People love to say "It's just those darn violent video games", when actually (most of the time) video games had nothing to do with it. For example, if you take a kid out hunting (which, while we're on the subject I disapprove of in REAL LIFE ), depending how much he likes it he might keep doing it. Fast-forward 20 years. He's doing time for a murder he committed. No one will say, "It's his dad taking him out hunting that made him do this". Oh no, they'll probably make a big deal about how the kid played GTA when he was younger and air a news report saying how that "corrupted" him. This simply is because of the fact that our society has certain views and norms that, no matter how hard some of us may try to change the view of the people, we never will. Another thing that I hate is such bias in gaming magazines such as Game Informer. Every once and a while they'll pick out a letter they got from a 13 year old saying how they're parents won't let them buy Blops. They (I have to wonder who's opinion this actually is :|) promptly respond with something like, "You have good parents. Until you turn 17 (and magically become more mature ), you can have fun with games like Mario and other wholesome games like that." I hate a magazine that has it's own opinions, per se. I'm fine reading an article on one of the editors talking about how they do/don't approve of kids playing M rated games, but I just don't like how they NEVER do that, and continue to be extremely biased (since it also gives them better relations with parents and other people). Anyway, I should end up this rant by saying that I'm 13, and that personally my parents started caring less and less about the ratings of the games I was playing as I grew older. /rant
