EDIT: Okay this made me REALLY mad. As soon as I post this message, my post count went up. Does post count not count in like the Skyrim forum section or something? Like I said if I am missing something, sorry

Post count?
Hi, sorry if this is bothersome to ask, but my post count has been 17 for like 3 weeks now, and I have posted way more than 17 posts. Not that its a big deal, but I was just wondering as to why it has not been going up, or if there is a current bug, or I am not doing something right. Thanks.

Re: Post count?
Because posts in General Offtopic or Skyrim don't count.
I'm sure that's in the rules somewhere.

You can see your total post count by clicking your Profile button in a reply you've made, and then click Search user's posts. You'll see the count top left.

Re: Post count?
Which gives some pretty damn crooked results.
I have 377 (soon 378) posts in the post count. But if you press search, I have almost 4000 (3829, to be specific).
I'd love to see the RP forum posts go into count, at least, but I guess that's a fruitless endeavour.

Re: Post count?
Why? This is an Elder Scrolls site. New users tend to look to either older members, or members with higher post counts for sound, trustworthy advice on the games. As a general rule. Skewed results come from high post counts from discussions about what you had for dinner. Not that those conversations aren't worthwhile, but its not the goal of the post count on this site.JVElEven wrote:

Post count is not something that matters overall, but like I said, it is a guide to help new members know that it may be a trustworthy source. If a brand new user signs up and posts a huge guide to Skyrim, we would be much more skeptical, than say if someone like Chaos did it (I use Chaos because he has done a good job assembling info already). Having RP's and General included in the post count would be misleading.

Re: Post count?
I don't get the logic behind not counting posts in certain boards. They're posts. I'm making a post right now. How is this any different than making a post in the Skyrim board?

Re: Post count?
The post count in this forum is simply a measure of your contribution to sections that matter.1337onidas wrote:I don't get the logic behind not counting posts in certain boards. They're posts. I'm making a post right now. How is this any different than making a post in the Skyrim board?
Essentially, the sections where you do get a post count are ones where you are eithe helping people, broadening on a topic or delving into a situation.
Skyrim right now is only speculation, and might I add garners some useless topics and posts. None of this really contributes to anything, so no post count.
Again one shouldn't base a user on post count. But new users have the tendency to do this anyway.
I'll give you a situation. On the Minecraft forums I have over 6000 posts, most from general off topic there, where posts are counted. Now all that goes on in there is chit chat and debate, nothing related to Minecraft. Though I could go to the actual Minecraft sections, make a post and get newbies going: "Holy crap, you have sooo many posts." and other 'bow down to me' drivel, which in the end means nothing.
That's sorta why we only count posts in certain sections.

Re: Post count?
Basically, everything that Spiney said.
We should also mention that post count doesn't actually mean anything here. You do not get any prizes for having it high, it is not a key to being important, and it will not get you any special perks. We are all equal members here. It's just for fun!

Re: Post count?
That's pretty much true on every forum, I believe. I can't name any where post count matters (besides for becoming an auto-confirmed member). The obsession over things like post count, forum karma, titles, etc. has always confused me. What confuses me even more is that while people with low posts counts are treated badly, people with high post counts are generally treated better. I can't explain it fully. Some people use it as a guideline for how much experience you have on topics that the forums cover I guess, or they've just been around for long enough for people to know them by name.
If it annoys you, just ignore them entirely. Post count only matters up until you're a confirmed member, after that, it's only a semi-accurate representation of your contributions to these boards.

Re: Post count?
Here is the key reason for the Pre-Release Skyrim posts to not count:
Since the pre-release post are speculation, wishlists, and sleuthing, they are not very accurate.
- We want the forums to be just as accurate as the wiki.
- We do not want people to be confused with pre-release info, and post-release facts.
- In order to remove any doubts about what is pre-release info, and post-release facts, the pre-release section will be moved to the Archives.
- When posts, topics, or sections are moved to the Archives, every post that members made will be removed from their post count.
- It was decided that it would be better to not count them from the start, than have a large number of people complain that they lost 1000+ post counts.

Re: Post count?
Whether or not post count matters is entirely subjective. Since most of the posts I make on forums are relevant to the discussion I consider a post count to be an indicator of how active I am on that forum. Not that it matters, I hardly ever post here. I was just wondering why you guys didn't do it.

Re: Post count?
Also thought I'd point out, TES General Posts are not counted either (everyone always seems to forget poor old TES General
)
Also, although I fully support the current system (although really it's not a huge concern to me), the community did vote on the structure of post counting (before my time I will say), and it's a decision I think most everyone is happy with.

Re: Post count?
I didn't... I recently requested a change to that. Hopefully it will be implimented when they do the admin work when they change things around when Skyrim comes out.

Re: Post count?
The community where given a vote, but the admins and moderators at that time decided in the end it was best to keep it how it's always been. I don't remember the whole conversation, but I believe it was something to do with traditions etc.OblivionDuruza wrote:Also thought I'd point out, TES General Posts are not counted either (everyone always seems to forget poor old TES General)

Re: Post count?
We did hear and do hear all your suggestions.
It's on the table for discussion. But I think overall the way the post count situation works right now is fine with everyone. Everyone contributes here and you know who is a "well-known" member not by their number of posts but by their presence in the community. We know H8Ball will help with technical issues, Andere will help with Morrowind mod issues, Duruza and Velothi are into lore and history - etc., etc., and that's a much better indicator of who's who, in my opinion.
Basically, 1337onidas, we don't do it because we don't do it, for reasons explained above. But things always change. Who knows what the future holds? We'll have to wait and see.

Re: Post count?
Do posts in Global Announcements count? I just posted in one, and noticed my post count stayed the same, but nobody has ever mentioned this before.

No, I don't believe so. Essentially it's just TES game related discussion that counts around here...since we're a TES forum.ArgonianDunmer wrote:Do posts in Global Announcements count?
