Faction Perks

Post by twmcnellie »

Everyone remembers the Archmage's Tower/Enchanted Chest/Mage Underling, Fighter's Guild Salary, Shadowmere, Nocturnal's Cowl, etc. What are we thinking will be the rewards for the new factions?

I know it's been done, but I'm personally really, REALLY hoping for a good mage-themed house for the College of Winterhold. I got the University Tower in Oblivion, but unfortunately, I play on ps3, so I can't access Frostcrag Spire. :(

Soldier/Companion the higher of a rank you are, sort of like the NCR radio in New Vegas, would be nice to have, and not so much of a perk, but 'incentive' to join a certain guild, leveled armor's. As in multiple sets of armor associated with a guild, Like how in Morrowind you went from Imperial Chain to Templar.

I thought that the Dark Brotherhood "reward" of
Spoiler:
being Listener, looking over a sanctuary with just the Speaker and 2 minions, and praying to the Lucky Old Lady statue for gold every month
was kind of "meh" IMO. I think they tried to compensate that with the
Spoiler:
Deepscron Hollow DLC
, but I hope the DB will have a better reward/outcome :?

I agree!! I always hated how I felt obligated to wait until level 32 to do the Dark Brotherhood, because if I didn't, I was missing out on the best bow in the game. Ugh! I really appreciated in the Knights of the Nine how you could place your armor on a stand and get the version appropriate for your level.

Anyway, back on topic-- leveled items according to rank would be awesome. I would personally LOVE to see that apply to weapons as well. Like... your staff is upgraded each time you rank up in the College of Winterhold, etc.

This gave me an idea: You know how when you first joined the DB in Oblivion, you got the

Well, what if in Skyrim you get something similar, and every kill you make gives it more power (in terms of magicka or damage, etc) and every rank it changes appearance. Thoughts?

I love that idea, they could talk about the blade imbibing the blood of it's victim and taking their strength, etc.

One thing I'd really appreciate is a little more recognition of your status. If I'm the leader of the Fighter's guild, I want people to treat me like the hardened killing machine I am.

I always thought that getting an armor set as a reward is a bit boring. It need to be either overpowered or it will only be attractive to a minority of characters.
I was thinking more in the line of reward spells, abilities, vendors, travel methods or perks. Those can be handy no matter what character you play.

Just some made up examples:
Mages Guild: Out of Body Experience spell. Allows the camera to move a way from the player for some time so you can scout ahead in a dungeon.
Thieves Guild: Extra guard bribing options.
Dark Brotherhood: Access to the special alchemy lab that makes all your poisons stronger.
Fighters Guild: Access to the fastest horses.

I actually like that idea!

Another good one would be a spell to identify what is in a NPC's inventory without having to pickpocket or use telekinesis first, which usually provokes them.

I'm pretty sure I read that you can "see" other people's inventories without provoking them in Skyrim (sneaking up to them and "activating" them). It's only when you actually try to steal something that they turn hostile.

That's accurate. "It's not a crime to see what they got".
