It is one of the classes as there are 21, and it either is a combat or mage class also it seems that strenght is a main attribute and maybe destruction a main skill, so I suggest Battlemage or Crusader.

If I interpreted everything right these two seem to be the best solutions, but the problem is if you interpret war as combat -> crusader should be right, but my feeling goes more for battlemage as he "feels" more destructive^^.

Why not spellsword? Or sorcerer?

Seeing as you guys are going to run in circles on the last part of the clue to solve this, I think I'll call this, as the answer is there:

I am one of twenty-one, - 21 classes
if you should so choose. - classes that you can choose

You may live by me, or die by me, - your class defines your way of life
what is clear is you are naught without me. - you don't have a character/stats menu without first choosing a class, in fact you cannot not choose one

Not one of the shadows, I am one of war, - Not a stealth governed class but a ... combat specialised class
for me you must be strong, for I am destructive. - Destruction is one of the skills

Trelares gets this, the answer is the Crusader Class.

Because neither have a Combat Specialisation. Click. Look at the Destruction column and you'll find only one class has it as a Major without it being part of its specialisation.

Ohh... I see why Crusader is the answer now. Congrats, Trelares!

waiting there with best regards.

I want to say a Corpus Stalker.

I sometimes find them in crypts, lunger (I think) means "coughing" or something, and Corpus is "The Divine Disease" so that would explain the "holy" part.

That is my opinion though, I am sure I am way off

A holy place could also mean a shrine, like one in the Pilgrimages of the Seven Graces.

A lunger is someone who lunges (moves forward suddenly), although that might not be the intended meaning. I don't think it's a trick though, so I wouldn't read too deeply into that word (I could be wrong though).

Corprus Stalkers remind me of lunging. Waiting there with by best regards, though. I can't make that fit with much.

All wrong but some answers/suggestions are on the right track. addictedtomorrowind's suggestion for the holy place is good, and also a bonewalker has some connection.

Probably a fair bit off, but could it be a Soul Gem? Bonewalkers sometimes 'hold' them as loot, and one is needed for the Shrine of Pride.

Sry wrong duruza, it has to do something with something a Bonewalkers can "hold" but not in the way you intended and also other monsters from crypts/graveyards can "hold" this.
