Companions?
will there be permanent companions in skyrim like in New Vegas? I don't mean companions like the apprentices at the arcane university. I mean permanent companions that have their own story and quest lines.

Re: Campanions?
I heard through the grapevine yes there will be and many options for those followers. But the sources escape me at the moment.

Re: Campanions?
Yes, you can talk to a huge range of NPCs and get them to join you when adventuring. Some are mercenaries for hire that you must pay gold. Others will accompany you if they "like" you enough, or if you are going on a quest related to that NPC.
You can also cultivate "friendships" by doing things for the NPC, completing quests, etc, you can develop friendships into "romances" and you can even marry NPCs and if you buy a house in town, they will move in with you.
Also, from the recent Italian walkthrough of the Quakecon demo: As we helped a person to receive a letter in this brief quest, we could ask him to follow us, and he became an intelligent and careful fellow companion adventurer.

Yes, but from what I've read in some previews some companions are immortal ... Don't like this feature.

Re: Companions?
And you can also have faithful animal companions, since no one has mentioned it. >:D

I sure hope that isn't true, although I've also read that. Regardless, I doubt I'll be taking a companion very often, I can't be babysitting some NPC while I'm doing my own thing.La-Paloma wrote:Yes, but from what I've read in some previews some companions are immortal ... Don't like this feature.

Re: Companions?
Most companions are mortal, I think, It's just that many preview writters managed to recruit companions who also happened to be part of a quest, so they were essential.La-Paloma wrote:Yes, but from what I've read in some previews some companions are immortal ... Don't like this feature.

If anything I'll bet on the Bosmer Faendal being a very popular NPC in the comming weeks ahead.

Re: Companions?
Why pick a companion you already now? I'll be pickin' up the leather wearin' rogue dunmer from Whiterun, or someone like her. Would be amazing if you could make her fall in love with the PC and score some discount in the process, among other things...La-Paloma wrote:If anything I'll bet on the Bosmer Faendal being a very popular NPC in the comming weeks ahead.

Re: Companions?
Companions? Away with them I say. I don't need another fussy teammate getting in the way of my daring escapades. After all, why would I want to share loot and treasure with someone else? Pah!
On a more serious note, I also read that this... 'Feandel' is immortal. Perhaps it's because he's essential in a later quest - as someone else proposed -, but if not I hope there's a feature to toggle companion immortality on/off.

Re: Companions?
Doesn't he work in the Riverwood wood mill? If no-one else can take over the mill in the case of his death then he'll be made a quest character, also it could have been because the game was just a alpha, not the full version.La-Paloma wrote:Yes, but from what I've read in some previews some companions are immortal ... Re: Companions?
I don't mind immortal companions. I get attached to them, I'll admit. But I'd also like a feature to turn immortality off as well, since poetic deaths are usually pretty awesome.
I'll probably pick up Faendal first and look around to see if I can get a companion that I like better. That Dunmer chick sounds alright, but if I'll be RP'ing a 'good guy', she might not be my cup o' tea.

Re: Companions?
Yeah... If companions aren't going to be immortal, I'd really like there to be some sort of resurrection spell. Not zombifying or anything; I'd even be okay if there was a time limit, like... you have 30 seconds after they hit the ground to bring them back from the brink of death. Just saying, if I go about a quest with my husband, I'd really rather he not die. Does anyone else remember how easy it was to accidentally kill your own damn companion in Oblivion? AoE spells were just out, which is a pity, because that's how I love to fight.

Re: Companions?
I don't really see the large complaint of Immortal companions, at the most they'll end up being 'unconscious' so it's not very game breaking anyway. I hated having to re-load a save everytime Dog meat was crushed by a Behemoth or vaporized by an Enclave trooper
