Roleplaying?
Greetings to you
Today's poll is about ROLEPLAYING, which seems to be huge on these forums. Personally, I've never understood why, but perhaps you could clarify that for me.
So the question is: will you roleplay? How much? Why?
My answer? I won't. Give me Chain Lightning and point me to Alduin and I'll be happy.

I used to make polls, but then I took an arrow in the knee.

Re: Roleplaying?
For me, roleplaying is what I find best in a game like this. So yes, I'll definitely be roleplaying, expanding my characters, etc.

Re: Roleplaying?
There isn't a 'Yes, YES, BLOODY HELL YES!' answer, so I'll just have to go with 'Yes'.
I enjoy the roleplaying aspect of Elder Scrolls more than I do the fighting or dungeon-delving. Half the time, I don't even bother with the Main Quest, just because a want to play a non-fighting character, or an evil one who would rejoice if most the world was slaughtered, or an ambitious one who would rather join the Mythic Dawn than destroy them. Even simple things such as making a routine for my simple characters, like going to church, or visiting the bakery, or searching for herbs, or wandering to a nearby inn for lunch, is fun for me.

I dont get why people want to go around pretending they are merchants or stuff like that , rather than play the actual game.. so no. I wont be roleplaying.

My roleplaying is just making up a reason that i'm in prison.
In Oblivion I was framed, in Skyrim i'll have done something insane such as killed a Legionaire.

I won't do things like make routines, or sleep on a schedual, but I do make a character and try to stick by it when making decisions.

I'll go the whole hog. Routine, schedule, likes/dislikes, house, food, drink, friends, enemies, everything.
Have done this on Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, but I feel this will be the best experience yet.

Re: Roleplaying?
I roleplay a little but usually just when it comes with my class. It's more like if I'm going to be a dual wielding Nord, I won't have a shield in another shot as back-up so if my swords don't give me enough protection I just deal with it.
A hero can be anyone, even a man doing some as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a young boy's shoulders to let him know the world hadn't ended.

Re: Roleplaying?
A little bit. I honestly have no idea why some people go as far as routines, it justs wastes time.
I carried a mage's book, my favorite book, and put away my very first weapon in Oblivion. In Skyrim I'll probably keep a stash of bows, seeing as how I saw several kinds in videos, not just those excuses for bows in Oblivion, I saw a recurve, longbow, and a couple enchanted ones.

Theificka, it doesn't waste time. It enhances the gameplay in my opinion. And, as in real-life, you don't have to have a linear schedule, just eat once before 12, between 12 and 4 and then between 6 and 10. Then go to sleep at, say 9 to 1 and then wake up at 7 to 9 in the morning. Just try it once. It's fun.

Re: Roleplaying?
I never go as far as a routine and sleeping and eating and all that, but I generally have a backstory in my mind about my characters morals and views on races etc. Also, I find wandering through town and stopping at inns and taverns and guilds to talk to people very satisfying, it makes for a nice break in between quests, otherwise I feel like I'm constantly just running to the next objective.

Re: Roleplaying?
Yeah, stopping to chitchat is a nice way to break up quest-frenzy. So is gawking: which I'm sure everyone will be doing during Skyrim. "Oh my god, that looks amazing!" "Hey, I didn't notice that before!" "-no speech, too busy reading the new books-"

Skyrim is a Role playing game.. if you play skyrim and go straight to the main quest.. you shouldn't be playing Role playing games.

Re: Roleplaying?
Nothing says you cannot enjoy a big, open world like Skyrim, with story, magic and good combat and not roleplay while enjoying it. I'm not going to pretend I'm a farmer and sell some melons for a few septims when I'm the MOTHER LOVING DOVAKHIIN BABY!

Re: Roleplaying?
Depends a bit on how much room the game will give me to do it.
I always found that becoming a guild master screws up my attempts to stay in character. Becoming master of more then one guild makes it even worse.

Re: Roleplaying?
Ill be RPing like 95% of the time, though sometimes I will go out of character if say...a bug arises, like if a save file gets corrupted I may need to go out of character for a few mins to use cheats to get mah save file back, though ill try to RP most of the time .-.

Re: Roleplaying?
I'll write up a story about how my character ended up in prison. My character is a good guy in the day, but at night he turns out to be a thief and an assassin, and he just tries to blend in at day. So that can justify some of the good quests he'll do.
Also - it's fun to write a life-story and what they've achieved, and then how they lost everything in an event, and then he's caught in prison, not knowing how he got there or something.

Re: Roleplaying?
I'll be roleplaying a lot, but sometimes I'll break character to experiment. If I see something unique that I would never have seen in TES III or IV I will have to check it out, even if my character isn't supposed to be curious.

Exactly it's really cool like you make your own character with a whole backstory and lifeConzeq wrote:I'll write up a story about how my character ended up in prison.
