Weapons Rack/Bookshelf
I'm new to Oblivion, I've been playing it (obsessively) on PS3 for the past couple of weeks.
Anyway, my character's bought a house in Bravil. It's a bit of a toilet, but it'll do for now (soon she'll have enough gold to afford that nice house in Cheyhindal, near the border of her homeland of Morrowind).
Anyway, I bought all the extra bits at the Fair Deal (storage area, kitchen etc). I haven't had any problems storing stuff in chests and drawers, my problem's with the weapons rack and the bookcase. I've tried putting my swords in the weapons rack and to line up my books on the bookcase but no luck. I've tried everything - using telekinesis spells, dropping my stuff in front of the racks or bookshelf but nothing works - it still ends up all over the floor.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Have you tried using the "grab" function? What I did (before I got a mod for PC) was use telekinesis to lift the item into the shelf, and then use grab to straighten it. Dropping the item straight from inventory will not work, as the item will fall haywire anywhere there is room. This is only for decorating shelves, however. Putting weapons on the weapon rack is near impossible. Despite having the "holes" (where the handle of the weapon likely goes) in the texture, the mesh for it is probably solid. Try "grabbing" and quickly releasing a weapon already in one. It will act as though going through a solid object. It's as impossible as putting a small item into an urn. Even though it looks hollow, it's actually solid. The item will look like it's floating.
The "grab" key for PS3 I think is...... L2?

Personally I've never been able to get anything to hang in that weapons rack. In the end, I just threw a Glass Warhammer on top and gave up.
I've had abit more luck with books, I generally find that if you get them by the top of the spine, and dangle them in place, and then v. gently lower into position, that seems to have the best chance of working. But it still seems to take forever, and I've never been able to completely full a shelf.

You've gotten bows into a rack? I'm impressed!
Longswords and claymores tend to go into wall-mounted racks pretty decently, once you get the hang of threading them through the top hole. Maces always turn upside down when you use telekinesis, and trying to place them with grab is an exercise in futility. I have yet to get any staff to look good in a weapon rack, and getting them to go in at all is about as fun as chewing glass.
My favorite method now: the CS

I can only hope that one day even console games will be moddable. Decorating really is almost insanely annoying, especially when you finally get something placed and then you accidently run into it the next day. Daedric helmets seem to be particularly awkward as far as headgear goes, because it's a weird kinda diamond-shape or something underneath. It just won't stay up straight!
What I've found annoying, and since given up on, is having a Katana (finally!) balanced to sit across the mantelpiece of the Skingrad fireplace, then next time you go running in the house and slam the door behind you, it falls off!!!
That house really looks as though it's built more solidly than that.....

Hm, no I didn't Weka.
I am primarily an xBox Oblivion player, and after I got the red-ring of death, my brother lent me his copy of Oblivion. I had no instruction manual or anything, so I winged most of it.
And no I'm not.
I am currently traversing the golden plains of Mulgore, hunting the elusive Kodobeasts of The Barrens.

You see, when a PS3 and a Wii love eachother VERY much, the PS3 connects to the Wii with an adaption cord. The PS3 installs it's high-tech hardware into the Wii, which then becomes an xBox.
As the xBox ages, it becomes an irritable xBox 360, who gets very hungry. The xBox 360 continues to eat your expensive discs and use a Goldfinger-esque LASER to entirely annhilate both BioShock and Oblivion.

Tried everything, but still no luck. The best I managed was getting a skull and crystal ball to stand upright on top of a chest of drawers, before thinking 'sod the interior decorating, I'm wasting valuable questing time here!'
Anyway, I've got Benerius Manor and the Cheydinhal House, so I'm not too bothered about the shack in Bravil now.
Thanks for the advice, t'was much appreciated.

I didn't read all the posts >.> but I saw something about the red ring of death. I got the read red on my normal xbox, but only when I melted the graphics card. (If you want to know how that happened simply ask, and no I didn't take a lighter to it) It was a problem that happened when xbox was first released (I'm not sure about any other consoles) but it seems that microsoft has a reputation of selling faulty consoles just to release them before christmas. I believe there were problems when the original xboxs came out too. It's basically just a sign to let you know something's wrong. Although some of my friends have told me that you can do things to your xbox to get the "ring of fire" or "christmas lights" which is just making the ring around the on button red or red and green. It seems stupid to me, because you have to take the xbox apart (I think) and do some things to it. It's just not worth it D:

On the topic of moving books: it's important to remember that a lot of books have a collision mesh bigger than the actual mesh. But I usually go from one side of the shelf to the other, grabbing the top of the spine, fiddling with the book until it stands up, and then pushing it forward and to the side (from the front cover) until it's flush. One my first character, I filled all the bookshelves in the downstairs of the Bruma house.
Help? Help with what? They don't make a cure for stupid. You'll just have to play through the game all over again. - Butterknife
