Atronach

Post by Eltee »

Is it pronounced with a č sound (ch) or a kh sound, as in atro-notch or atro-nack?

grr... I can't remember how Sir Patrick Stewart pronounces it if you choose it as your birth sign... I'm pretty sure that it's atro-nack

That's what I thought, but I had trouble remember anyone ingame saying it. It's like Hlaalu; everyone probably pronounces it different.

Multiple pronunciations found while searching:

ET-ruh-nahk

"Atronach? Well it turns out that their are many different ways of pronouncing it. Some say "astronarc", others say antroknoch"

[ah-troh-NAHSH]

I just pronounce it with a ch sound.

I don't think (a-tro-näch) sounds that weird, sometimes when a word has the "ch" at the end, you pronounce it like a short "k".
Lemme think of some examples.

I've always used the K/Q/hard C sound. Isn't that sort of like an unwritten rule in English, that the CH at the end of a word is pronounced as K unless otherwise noted? It seems like a habit I've developed.

AH as in top TR O as in boat NAHK AH-tro-nahk.

I don't know, English/Cyrodiilic has so few standard rules of pronunciation.

A poll might be interesting.

I pronounce it with a hard K, myself. Just seems natural to do so.

I've always said "At-ro-knock".
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.
