Re: Arena
On the one hand I wouldn't mind it being in, more content is always great, but as I think back on my play throughs of Oblivion, I didn't enjoy the Arena all that much. It became very repetitive, and with later characters I mostly did it to get the armor and the adoring fan

Aww shucks. I enjoyed the Arena quite a bit, on every playthrough I have to complete the Arena just to shut up that Yellow Team ChampionIlikeskooma wrote:Yes, There is no arena in skyrim

And therefore there was plenty of room to improve. I'm kinda saddened that they've ousted it completely.

Re: Arena
Think like youre trying to sell a video game for 150 dollars.
You start by selling the game for 60 dollars, and then you sell two really big expansions for 30 dollars each.
After that, you need two decent sized things to sell for 15 bones each.
Something that would take zero brains to make, and yet totally satisfy everyone who is sad that it is gone, is an expansion pack arena.
Dont even need level designers, just 20 different voice actors. Which they already have.

Tbh I think it has to be more than just that. More interesting fights, some twisted backstory - you getting absorbed in a fight or something.
You can't just repeat what you did in the last game, and then take money for it.
OT:
That saddens me. I did enjoy the fact that you could go in and kill people for some quick money and exp - also some decent weapons @ low lvl.

Re: Arena
It wouldn't be exactly the same. I believe the lore states that each city has had an Arena team. I wouldn't mind something similar to Oblivion's arena, so long as I could choose a city to fight for, and/or get different bonuses from different cities' Arena Raiments. However, I would like to see the end of the matches be more exciting or alluring. Fighting monsters for petty cash just didn't appeal to me.Conzeq wrote: Tbh I think it has to be more than just that. Re: Arena
Nah, it felt quite stupid and useless. I mean the fights were just showmatches, and everyone is so happy for you when you become Grandmaster.Dracomagne wrote:It wouldn't be exactly the same. - There would need to be something like, you could rise through the ranks and become arena-master of that particular town. Then you could fight other towns arena-masters and so on - mass deatmatches being an opportunity aswell.
And of course the occasional challenger for the Grandmaster title (I mean cmon, why no challengers in Oblivion?) - THEN I call that a DLC worth buying.
Need some story tho

Re: Arena
if its confirmed to be out i think an awesome dlc for it would be like gladiator, haha, u get knocked out and enslaved and lose all your stuff (they love taking away all ur [&@%!] in dlcs) u get infected with a disease that takes away half your mana so mages cant just spam spells through it, and u start out with nothing but fists, as you start to win u start to get all ur spells/magicka/fatigue/shouts back and the disease lessens (call it mal nurished or something) the better you do the more your captors feed u bringing you around skyrim to secret fighting areas, and after each fight you get to choose one piece of equipment from your captors to use in your next battle, they dont give it to you until your in these pits in the ground you have to fight in, they throw it on the ground and you gotta get it before your opponent, then they paralyze you at the end of each fight, and take everything back, and eventually the stormcloaks or imperial legion come and you get to fight the guys who enslaved you and slaughter them in cold blood in the arenas they made you fight in... awwww *insert one good item for beating dlc* charge 800ms points -end-
Oh and the imperial legion or stormcloaks give you horse armor.

Re: Arena
I think the reason there is no arena is because what you describe can't be done properly.Dracomagne wrote: However, I would like to see the end of the matches be more exciting or alluring.
Even if the game would look at not only your level but also at your stats, skills, spells and items to estimate the challenge you need, it would still do a bad job. This is because the game can't foresee how good the strategies are that you know how to use.
Suppose there is a cheap trick involving an invisibility potion, the paralysis spell and the slow-time dragonshout to get the dagger surprise attack bonus 5 times in a row(made-up example). If the game assumes you know about this but you don't, stuff will be waaaay to hard. If the game assumes you don't know the trick, but you do, the fight will be boring.
Normally this is not a problem because the player can just run away and come back later if things are too though. If you are locked up in the arena this is not an option.
The arena is doomed to be boring I'm afraid.
