Re: Your opinion on the Empire
I dunno. I see them as a nicer version of the Roman Empire, to be honest.

Re: Your opinion on the Empire
Yeah, any empire like this is gonna have problems with prejudice and stuff. But overall it's done a decent job.

This seems more TES General to me.
The Empire is okay. Best of a bad lot.

I liked the Emperor, and overall they mean well. But sometimes they just seem a little too corrupt, but then again which Empire isn't, eh.

I second Kavatch's opinion, it seems to keep order, but full conquest would be impossible to achieve by itself.

Re: Your opinion on the Empire
I think the Empire is overstepping it's bounds. It has to be managed more efficiently or it has to be dissolved. The few elements that I like about the Empire aren't even empiral innovations (Ex.The Blades)

Re: Your opinion on the Empire
Every empire is born, lives, and dies, and they all have good and bad points.
This particular empire is definitely a mixed bag and meddles in far too many places, just like modern Earth nations. I can live with that, as long as it stays out of my way and lets me rescue it from itself.. :p

Re: Your opinion on the Empire
I don't like that they try to "educate the barbarians" who are just trying to live theyre lives.
and of course by educate, I mean steal theyre land and stuff.
But aside from that, the empire keeps order.

Re: Your opinion on the Empire
I who wish to see the fiery destruction of the Empire have just accomplished great deeds.
I was 100% chamelon and killed Adamus Phillia and 10!! other guards, who where sleeping! No bounty!
Then I killed Giovanni Civello.. None shall question the dread father.

Re: Your opinion on the Empire
They're okay, I guess. The guards are corrupt [&@%!] though. Hieronymous Lex is a shining example. Ruining the lives of the poor due to a selfish personal vendetta.

Re: Your opinion on the Empire
I wish guards were more casual with arrests/bounty paying. And not scream so angrily. that would be a good improvement.
I hope guards in skyrim are more casual and less tensed.

Re: Your opinion on the Empire
The Empire is all right (ok, maybe a little oppressive).
The guards are annoying idiots, expecially for a Nord smuggler like my character, and I wish they could be bribed...come on, all these corrupted guards quests, and you can't corrupt them?!?

Much like the real world government, I respect them, but I think a lot of what they do is stupid.

Re: Your opinion on the Empire
From the impression given by Oblivion, the Empire can really only be seen as a good thing, we are positioned to see it as such. Martin is the Hero, Uriel is a Martyr for Tamriel, and the Empire fights alongside the PC against the forces of 'evil'. Morrowind gives a fairly different view on things, and there is a lot more grey. On one hand, many Dunmer dislike the Empire, and House Indoril, House Dagoth, and many others, including the Cammona Tong and others, are openly opposed to their 'occupation' of Morrowind. On the other side of the spectrum, there are many supporters of the Empire, and clearly a number of benefits to Morrowind, that have been reaped by its membership in the Empire. That's not to say that Oblivion lacked these shades completely, but in Morrowind they were much more pronounced, on one hand, you were working for the Empire, under the Blades, but on another, the Dunmer were a strong influence on the player.
Just as a side note, this might be a good topic for the Lore Forum, as opposed to Oblivion, seeing as the Empire stretches much further than this single game. Just a suggestion though.

Re: Your opinion on the Empire
From the responses I saw about my thoughts on the Empire on the Lore section, I thought you all love it. Glad to see that people do not strictly think of the Empire as the happy place needing to be saved that it was in Oblivion.

I do respect the emperor, but I just do not like the council IMO. I think Ocato is kind of a jerk...

Re: Your opinion on the Empire
I still maintain that Ocato is fair from a 'bad' character or jerk. In the words of Countess Narina Carvain, "he has done well in an impossible situation."
I'm going to miss the Septim Empire, that's for sure. Some places, I can see as separate states, particularly the Elven Provinces, namely Summerset. Others, like High Rock and Skyrim, I will probably still see as part of the Empire.
The Empire wasn't a bad thing, unification of the provinces was not a bad thing. That being said, I'm very interested in the Concordat of White Gold and The Great War. The Thalmor holds much promise.

Re: Your opinion on the Empire
I liked what I read about te empire when it was young and the Septim bloodline was still strong. I'd see it destroyed and reborne from its ashes, with a charismatic and intelligent emperor at its helm and advisors with brains instead of money.
What we've been shown of the emperial legion (the guards) I'm not impressed. Corruption among its ranks is way too common, it needs to be abolished and founded anew. Tighter patrols on the road is also a necessity, if I can get attacked by goblins and wolves on the city ilse, then they are no good.
The blades needed way more hands, eyes and ears, better training in combat is needed as well.

Re: Your opinion on the Empire
For one thing, the game Oblivion cannot be a true representation of the 'Lore' Cyrodiil, so I wouldn't go so far as to make judgements on the state of patrols carried out by the Legion, or the size of the Blades. There are limitations on the technology after all.
I guess the point of corruption is a valid one, however, a lot of the corruption observed in Cyrodiil is at a Watch level, and so more closely tied to the individual counties than the Empire itself. As such, I would not go so far as to say that corruption is too common either, but as always, this is just my opinion. As such, we saw a lot more of the Watch in Oblivion, than the Legion, so if anything, the Watch should be under scrutiny, rather than the Legion itself.

Re: Your opinion on the Empire
But wouldn't you expect the legion to be able to clear out "City Ilse" at the very least?

Re: Your opinion on the Empire
Yes, but it's a game, and I would put that down to the game mechanism rather than strictly to Lore. The Legion maintains pretty good patrols in my opinion, and their strength is fairly evident, in Morrowind and in oblivion, but particularly in Morrowind, with large garrisons across Vvardenfell, displaying to an extent the effects of the Armistice Treaty.
