By custom, I mean my heavily modded (230+) version of Oblivion. I'm going to upgrade my computer soon and I want to make a copy of my current "version" of Oblivion incase anything happens to it. For the frecord, I've actually modified some of the mods, and the load order has been perfected (all this took 50+ hours). I don't want to lose it all, and I can't just write down all the mods I have and download them later because I've changed most of them to work with others.
From my experience, simply copying the Oblivion data folder does not work. However, this might have been due to the fact that the computer I am using right now is running XP and the target computer (at that time) was running Windows 7 (both 64bit). I have a 32GB flash drive so storage isn't an issue - my Oblivion root folder is over 10 gigs, but I would like to know if this will work before I attempt it and whether or not I should do something different.
If possible, I would also like to bring over my OBMM the same as it was before - same disabled and enabled mods, for I like to enable some of them at various times. Is this possible?
Would very much appreciate it if anybody could help - especially looking forward to a post by the Ex PC Engineer guy I remember from a month or two ago.

When using mods correctly all you should need to do is back up the data folder.
But I am aware some interface mods edit the ini files too so you have to back those up from My Documents or where they are, you saves should be in the same folder somewhere and you need those anyway.
If you use wyrebash or patches or cleaned files or any that none sense that causes 10,000s of users to beg for mod list help then you may find none of this will work and you have little choice but to reinstall from scatch. Remember Beths official modding system causes conflicting mods to block each other, those tools stop that safety measure for happening, hence all the problems.
If you respect the official modding system, you should be fine.

Hm, I use OBMM, which is why I thought that backing up the data folder only was not going to work. Not only that, but I have OBSE installed which is in the root folder for Oblivion. I'll give it a go and just pull over the OBSE and Data folders, but I think that's going to prevent my mods from being recognised by OBMM the next time I use it, correct?giskard wrote:When using mods correctly all you should need to do is back up the data folder.

My second best solution was to get all the .omod files from my OBSE and also print out my load order, which will allow me to load each of these mods in the order I want them to appear in (even the inactive ones which I will disable later).
