Cities

Post by MattFlan »

Hey Guys)

I love the Citys in Oblivion, I think they are the main place to RP, where you can create various 'family' RPs or 'Jobs'. It's probobaly the thing I look forward to the most with Skyrim.

I've read lots of information regarding the cities in Skyrim, and that there will be around 5 , but they'll be bigger, etc.

However, I've watched various demos, and not one has appeared in any of them. There was 'Riverwood' in one, but I think that was more of a village, like Border Watch off Oblivion, rather than a City.

If any one has any links to any vidoes which show the interior of a Skyrim City,or any extra information, I'd be eternally grateful :)

all the cities are in a separate cell but are all bigger than imperical city
the villiages are on their own and are much bigger than about 3 huts and houses.

I reeeaally want to see Markarth Side. It looks huge. If I'm not mistaken, the most recent video showed some of Markarth when Matt Carofano was revealing the Become Ethereal shout. That bit was awesome because the cell isn't flat at all. The cities in Oblivion felt flat to me, excluding Bruma, which had stairs making tiers out of flat areas.

Do we know which 5 are the closed cells? Markath Side, Solitude, Whiterun, Riften, and Windhelm?

So far we've got conflicting sources on: Markath Side, Solitude, Whiterun, Riften, and Windhelm or Markath Side, Solitude, Whiterun, Windhelm and Winter Hold.

I'm thinking it will be the first set, but hoping it will be the second.

I did read a preview which stated that Winterhold was sinking into the sea, although there has been a theory that this is after an event that occurs in-game.

10- And what a city ! Guard are charging an old wooden house. They scream. I finally see Winterhold. Well, its ruins. Or to be more accurate, one ruin, the rest is under water. A road seems to lead to a fortress stuck on an eroded peak, frankly ready to sink into the sea. For once, I will follow the guards. They are in the lobby, going around looking for something, ready to attack. Everyone is telling me to speak to the jarl.
Not a friendly one … people only seem interested in the Winterhold College (Skyrim mages guild)… And he thinks its because of the mages the sea submerged his city.

This is very bad reasoning but the walls in the Riften Guard picture are VERY short, and I doubt a closed cell city would have walls that can be easily jumped over.

Also it seems to me that Winterhold is a more "important" city (it's the home of The College of Winterhold, Ysmir Collective and a rival of Solitude should no doubt be a big enough city to rival it. Therefore it would make more sense if Winterhold was closed off by great walls.

I'm sure i read an interview months ago where they said there won't be cities as big as Imperial City.

To be fair, Riften does have the Thieves Guild, but I do hope that you're right. Winter Hold does make more sense, being the former Capital and what not.

I think the walled, bigger cities are Riften, Whiterun, Markarth Side, Solitude and Windhelm. If you look on the map of Skyrim, the picture-things for each of those cities are a little bigger than the other four, so this makes me believe that they will be the bigger ones.
Btw, which city is it that has the strong Dunmer influence, Riften or Windhelm?

By lore, Winter Hold has a strong Dunmer influence, although unconfirmed reports on Skyrim place a fair number of Dunmer in Windhelm.

I hope there will be roof access in the cities. It would be perfect for my (inevitable) sneaky character.
